Florida politics over the last couple of years have been dominated by the dreaded word "TAXES"!   And in particular; property taxes!  The discussion has been raised to a high level both locally and nationally as Florida is a place where many from all over the country and the world either visit or own vacation property.  It had reached epic proportions just this past January as we Floridian passed Amendment 1 property tax reform.

While I am very much in favor of cutting taxes at all levels and across the board for all taxable items(and we should continue to do so),  I found this following chart very interesting. These statistics show us that many of our main feeder markets are vastly higher in property taxes than the owner-occupied Florida homeowner property taxes.

Notice below that Florida ranks only 22nd in the country for medium property taxes paid on homes. The statistics show that taxes paid as a % of home value was just 0.74% based on medium home value of $230,600. These are statistics derived from 2006 and of course prices have declined since then.*

What I found most interesting is that while we ranked near the middle the top spots are most big feeder markets to Florida.  Some really GOOD data for those folks looking to make Florida your permanent homestead.  And need I say that Florida has NO income taxes, either!
