Assuming the Sale- Advice from a Kindergartener

Lauren's Sunny Day

I have a picture that I like to keep handy.

It reminds me that, with regard to our clients...

             ...sometimes we assume too much.

It has been my contention that all too often we approach our jobs too much from a sales standpoint.

We assume rather than inquire.

In order to avoid this tendency I consult my daughter's drawing from the first day of kindergarten.

The teacher "assumed the sale."

My daughter felt otherwise.

By the way- that day was bright and sunny...

... not a cloud in the sky.

Hi Chuck,
Oh, poor baby.  I hope your daughter had a brighter outlook after the first day.

Actually Cynthia, It's not as bad as it looks. She loved her first day of school. The teacher created the sheet with the blurb on it. She handed it out and asked the students to draw a picture from their summer. My daughter just chose to draw a picture of the time it rained while we were on vacation. My wife and I thought the juxtapostion of the positive blurb and negative picture was too funny. :-)

What's even funnier is that your little girl had absolutely no idea how her artwork on that paper would be taken by us adults.  I just love a child's mind :)

Jim & Maria- Yes... kids are so funny. I loved how she drew what ever she wanted in spite of the proclamation.

Roland- Thanks for the comment... at times I'm tempted to not post these sorts of things. Not everyone has kids or finds these things appealing but hey- I can't contain myself sometimes. :-)
