I just read about a website thathelps young kids learn their alphabet, phonics, and teaches them how to read.
Our son is not quite old enough to try this yet, but he sees us on the computer and always wants to help, so this site could be great for us in a year or so.
And best of all, it's completely free! Starfall.com makes reading and learning fun and interactive for kids, so they don't even realize that they're learning essential skills.
Directly from their website, "The Reading Teacher named Starfall.com one of "Five Internet sites too good to miss" (May 2006). In 2005 and again in 2008, Homeschool.com recognized Starfall as one of their top five educational websites. Starfall was the first Internet site to be recognized by Children's Software & New Media Review as the highest rated product in their Early Elementary category, Spring 2004."

The best reading teacher is to show children that you love to read. Where you go they will follow. Make sure they get to the library to expose them to actual books in addition to the virtual tools were now have. Good luck with your little one.
Hey, Paddy. Yeah I would have to say we read to our son at least five times a day. He loves the chance to go and pick a book for us to ready to him. Hope that you have a great week, Jim
We will be down your way in July. I have a house on Lake Marion and love to visit Charleston. We have promised the kids to finally do the trip to Fort Sumter this time (we are big Civil War buffs). We used to belong to the aquarium but the kids are getting bored with that so we let the membership lapse. Any other suggestions for our day in Charleston?
Hey, Paddy. If you have time I would suggest a Dinner Cruise; they are awesome and not to expensive. I think about $40 per person and it last for three hours. They leave from Patriot Point. Hope you all have a blast. Jim
LOVE this website! My child's preschool teacher (thanks Kimber) mentioned it to me and the kids both love it. I love it too because it is so easy for the kids to navigate I can get some laundry done while my 3 and 4 year old work on the computer!!
Yes thank you. My daughter and I just checked it out. She is 5. She liked most of it which is great. I paid for one reading website that she did not like at all so it is great that this one is free. I have been trying to teach her how to read and this will help.
Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of this site before. My kids are always on the computer playing games. It will be great knowing they are actually getting something educational out of it.
Thanks for sharing the site. My babies LOVE to read books, magazines, "email" and they are definetely not old enough yet, but that sounds like a great place to introduce the phonics!
