transitions

Transitions we all have them, we all go through them

Your clients may be moving to a new area and there is anxiety about what the future holds. The children are nervous about a new school, new friends, will they look like dorks, who will sit with them in lunch room ?

Perhaps the reason for moving is a new job in a new location. There is anxiety for the employer as well.

Perhaps they have lost their job, lost their home.

Perhaps they are retireing from a job they have had for years and moving to a new area.

Change brings both opportunities and turmoil

How do we make sense of transitions?

How do we help our clients through transitions?

I learned through a real estate coach I had the first three years in the business, an important concept that has stuck with me. It is simple really.

When you are building a new bridge, you don’t tear down the old one until the new one is finished.

Letting go of the past, with what is familiar is the hard part. Embracing the new is exciting. The middle area of a transition is where life is riddled with the most uncertainty.

lilacsToday, I am sitting at my desk, with the lilac bush outside my window. I can smell the fragrance as the wind blows it into my office.

My oldest son, Matt navy GraduationMatthew graduated from Navy boot camp on Friday. Navy Graduation is an unbelievable ceremony. Full of tradition and pomp. A transition from a recruit to a soldier.

Allyssa graduation 2008Allyssa graduated from Saline High School on Sunday. High School graduation is full of traditions. Milestones in a young person’s life that they will always remember. A transition from high school to college.

Me, Sharon, Ms HaleToday one of my closest friends, Lois Hale passed away from life on earth to life in eternity.

Funerals… a time to say good-bye.A time to remember and celebrate their life and how much joy that person brought to you. A time of transitions and farewells for those who will miss them.

Rites of passage affect us throughout our life.

Understanding and embracing transitions, is a life long journey. Being emphatic to our clients during their time of transition is a calling we must embrace.

It is not all about the house, it is about the emotional decisions that are involved in a new move. Somewhere in that move is a transition of letting go of one thing and embracing the new thing.

It is a time of transition....a passing of old things into new things...a passing of death into life...an ending and a beginning.

Missy, One thing I will always remember about one of my son's graduations is him coming up to me afterwards and expressing how surprised he was by how moved he felt during the ceremony.  He said even compared to the highs of footballs games he played in, when they would win and the crowd would cheer, this topped that in how it made him feel proud and emotional, and this from someone who was not big on academics.  Life is full of occasions that change and effect us, sometimes more than we ever anticipate.  Wishing both of your children wonderful new beginnings and a (((((hug))))) for you as you  transition through the loss of a dear friend.

Missy I just had a good friend pass away. She had brain cancer and died at 30. I happened to find pictures today of us all hanging out and it made me smile. She was one of those people that had the most infectious smiles. She will be missed but I know she no longer in pain. Memories are bitter sweet. Also I am completely jealous I miss the lialics of michigan I remember my father having a store with a whole  bunch of them growing on the back fence. I would pick them every weekend when I was there. Transition is the foundation of life.

Missy, your topic goes hand-in-hand with the subject of relocation and referrals I wrote about yesterday.

We need to be good and empathetic listeners when a client comes to us with a real estate need that's brought about by a life change, whether it's a new job, a foreclosure or a death in the family.  It's much more than another transaction.  To a client, you're helping them bridge a gap from one point in their lives to the next.

Missy, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Is this the lady that was like a mom? Transition is very tough. Lissa is about to lose a previous "hands-on" menor from leukemia. We all should cherish each waking healthy moment we have on this earth. Hug. Later in the rain~Deb
