The name Valhalla comes from Norse Mythology. It means The Hall of the Chosen or Slain Warriors.
A Heaven-like place. Valhalla NY enjoys a beautiful topograpy with lovely hills and wonderful homes. Quite appropriately there are 2 beautiful cemeteries in Valhalla, Kensico Cemetery with Sharon Gardens and Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
The hamlet of Valhalla is about 28 Miles North of Times Square in Manhattan. There is a train station so it is about 35 Min. from Grand Central Station in NYC in the town of Mount Pleasant. The population is about 5,500.
Kensico Dam is one of the most famous features in Valhalla. The dam was named after the little village of Kenisico that was flooded out to make the Beautiful reservoir that occupies the space today. There is a plaza/park below the dam that has all kinds of Shows and festivals from ethnic fests to antique shows, movies to concert. The Westchester County 9/11 Memorial is in the plaza.
The Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, and Westchester Community college, part of SUNY are all located in Valhalla.
It is bordered by White Plains, Armonk (North Castle) Hawthorne, Elmsford, and Harrison.
The Mt. Pleasant town Hall, Pool and Community Center are all located in Valhalla.
