Identity Theft threatens Realtors with laptop computers
This is so exciting, I was quoted as an ID theft expert in the April issue of California Real Estate magazine that JUST came in the mail today!!! The magazine is published by the California Association of Realtors http://www.car.org/ and is mailed to every one of the hundreds of thousands of Realtors in California!
In the article, I speak about the recent crisis of thieves who steal laptop computers and download ALL the data -- including confidential and private information about their clients. That means their clients' names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, bank accounts, credit card accounts, and credit information is vulnerable.
Here's the scoop:

Take the necessary precautions, don't risk being sued by your clients, your broker, or the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). If your laptop IS stolen, you must report it to your clients that their data is at risk, in compliance with the 3 FTC laws governing ID theft.
I'd like to hear from you. Are you a mortgage loan officer or a real estate agent? Have you had your clients data stolen? Have you been sued over identity theft? What are you doing to protect your client's data? Have you been a victim of ID theft?
