University of Alaska Fairbanks

Do you like chocolate? No, I mean really, really like chocolate? If you think chocolate should be its own food group, we have just the event for you. Join us as we celebrate the University of Alaska Museum's 22nd Annual Chocolate Bash on April 12th at 7:30PM.

This year's theme, Chocolate Art in the Golden Heart, was selected to highlight both Fairbanks' centennial and the Museum's current special exhibit, New on View. Installed especially for the Chocolate Bash, the exhibit features 24 recent additions to the Museum's Fine Arts collection. It includes works by well-known artists such as Rusty Heurlin, Sam Kimura, and Kesler Woodward, as well as newcomers to the Museum's collections such as Lena Amason, T. Michael Croskrey, Sonya Kelliher-Combs and Sara Tabbert. Together, the works give visitors an appreciation of the range of art created in Alaska and a preview of the types of art to be displayed in the future Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery.

Special treats include Chocolate Decadence, a cake made by Westmark Fairbanks Hotel chef Luis Martinez, chocolate indulgences courtesy of Biscotti, Deserts First, Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge, Five Star Catering/The Espresso Deli, Hot Licks Homemade Ice Cream, Lavelle's Bistro, Pump House Restaurant, The Fudge Pot, and UAF Tanana Valley Campus Culinary Arts Program. Alaska Coffee Company, Coco-Cola of Alaska, North pole Coffee, Odom Company and Spring Alaska will be providing an array of wine, champagne and assorted non-alcoholic beverages.

As if the chocolate extravaganza isn't enough, Alaska Airlines has generously donated two round-trip tickets as this years door prize. The acclaimed Alaska Jazz Trio will be on hand to provide the musical backdrop - If you haven't had the chance to hear them, their music alone is worth the price of admission.

All proceeds from the evening benefit the Museum Endowment Fund, which supports acquisitions, field research, exhibits and educational programs and provides matching funds to secure outside grants. Tickets are $50 in advance, $60 at the door or $450 for a book of ten tickets ($50 off the per-ticket price) and may be purchased by phone (474-7505) or in person at the University of Alaska Museum. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

That is my kind of extravaganza! I REALLY LIKE CHOCOLATE!  No I don't like chocolate, I LOVE chocolate.  You are a little far from Texas though, even for chocolate.

Oh my....

I thought that I love chocolate (and all sweet stuff), but Marchel beats me 3 to 1 easily (LOL).

Anyway, interesting stuff. Who get the exhibits, the winners?

Chocolates and champagne?  Do you have room in the inn for me?!!  Now, this is a diet that I could definitely live on!!

Now this is my kind of event. Sounds a LOT neater than the National Cherry Blossom Festival on the Mall - events for it look like a big snooze. Congratulations on your gold star in the Post to Localism Group.

Now Jessee,  that really wasn't fair. You know that everyone loves chocolate. I knew that there was a reason that I liked Alaska.

I have always said chocolate is my drug of choice - it truly is - I love it and I agree it should be a food group of it's own

Marchel- You and Kathy are in the same boat.  This and the 20' chocolate waterfall at Alaska Wild Berry Chocolates in Anchorage make her drool. haha

Mara - This is really a great event... it's worth the trip. :)

Jon- Marchel has us both beat... the New on View exhibit is the latest addition to the UAF Museum... it will become a permanent part of the museum's collection.

Simon - Come see us... have some chocolate and see Mt. McKinley in one trip.

Doris - This is really great chocolate... Tennessee isn't that far. :)

Deborah - Absolutely - nothing better than chocolate to draw in a crowd is there?

Debe - There is definitely room at the inn... come on up.

Margaret - I don't know... I wouldn't have too much of an issue eating a Hershey bar on the mall today.  It's 16 degrees and snowing like the dickens.

Michael- Chocolate and the women, huh?  haha.  I'm still laughing at the comment you left the other day.

Colleen - It will be a fantastic event.  It's a sellout every year.

Thesa - You and Kathy both.  What that woman won't do for some good chocolate.

Did someone say chocolate? Wish I could be there. Sounds like my kind of event!

I tell you its tempting even though I am a Minnesotan looking at a winter blizzard warning beginning this afternoon...Perhaps spring is in Alaska.  Even without spring, chocolate sounds essential right about now.

Wow. That's my kind of party... Chocolate and Champagne.  I was supposed to take my Mom on a Alaska Cruise this July but we will not be able to make it due to my father being ill.  An event like this can't go wrong.  Enjoy the chocolate and maybe I'll see you next year!

Now I have another reason to visit AK!  What a great idea for an event!

Jesse & Kathy Clifton - Fairbanks Alaska Real Estate , Sounds like the perfect Win/Win - support for a great cause, and CHOCOLATE! We have Dagoba Organic Chocolate just down the street from our office, and they put out samples! Dagoba contributed chocolate for one of our Habitat for Humanity Rogue Valley dinners/silent auction, and it took effort above and beyond the normal call of duty to make sure that chocolate got to its intended destination. I hope your event was a big success.

("sugarberry" is our graphic - how appropriate!)

Lisa - Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.  If you have a sweet tooth, this is the event to satisfy it.

Annie & Bob - I think we got a taste of that blizzard up here.  Mother Nature dumped a good 8" of snow on us that is just now melting.  Winter, spring, summer or fall... chocolate is always in season.

Debra - LOL. It would have been so worth it.

Terri - The cruise up the Inside Passage is breathtaking.  It's one of those trips you just won't believe.  Don't worry, We'll have more chocolate and champagne next year.

Christy - Well, come on up.  We can do chocolate and champagne under the midnight sun.

Karen - That sounds like an awesoem event as well.  Frankly, I just don't think you can go wrong where chocolate is involved.
