With Debt and Foreclosures at a new high in our country, there appears to be a need for financial literacy. For many of us, we've heard of the Rule of 72, and I must admit, it's tantalizing to the ears. If you're reading this, and you are unaware of this principle, it's basically one of many time value of money estimates for determining the extent to which your money will double, if invested at some interest rate. I'm over simplifying it, but that's the main idea.
While the rule of 72 is great to discuss, and gives us some wishful thinking, we still manage to max out our credit cards and procure things that we just don't have the cash for. My reason for writing this blog is to stimulate another conversation about our nation's lack of financial literacy. We need to know more about money, and quick! After we've learned about money, we need to be coached and held accountable for staying on track. We've seen on many talk shows (including Oprah), how well families do with their finances with just a little encouragement and strategy from qualified professionals. If this is what we've come to, then great! It'll keep people such as me employed.
I am part of a nationwide crusade to stamp-out Financial Illiteracy, eliminate debt, and create wealth. For many of us, achieving this goal will lead to early retirement. There are seven key principles to retiring early:
1.) Eliminating Debt as quickly as possible, so that you increase your personal equity.
2.) Improve and maintain a favorable credit score in order to have great interest rates and car insurance premiums.
3.) Get good financial advice to keep from making bad decisions.
4.) Start saving and stop spending
5.) Generate passive streams of income through business ownership. Everyone has at least one skill that they can market for a part-time income. If you don't, then rely heavily on #4 and 6 to achieve # 5 :-)
6.) Start investing your savings in real estate, stocks, bonds, etc.
7.) Protect your wealth through legal advice
