Good Morning AR Folks! Are we all ready for April Fool's tomorrow? Personally I can't believe that April is one day away...the amount of snow we have and the cold temperatures feel like it is early March or late February in Conway NH. Hopefully it will all melt FAST.

blog keyboardSo now that we have been regularly posting and enjoying the ActiveRain community we think we are ready to step things up and start another blog. I have been looking at Typepad, Wordpress, Blogger and even just our website with RSS and blog functionality built into it. What are your experiences with some of these options? I know Typepad is a subscription service but it seems even your own Wordpress site needs it's own hosting so there is a monthly (nominal I know) fee with that. Blogger (from Google) appears to be the easiest to use but also seems to lack the individual identity.

wordpress for dummies

Are there other features I should be considering when choosing a secondary blog service? Are some more search engine friendly?

Finally...to be a "bifocal blogger" will require more time as there is twice the entries and maintenance...do those of you who blog on multiple platforms just cut/paste from one blog to the next to leverage your blog topic and save time or is that not a good idea.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Sean

Hey Sean tThanks for the post. You ned to put sometime in between cutting and pasting so the engines read them as new blogs

I have another blog associated with my Top Producer website. It's associated with Realtor.com, I think. However, I haven't been posting to it yet. I feel so lonely posting to that blog compared to posting to ActiveRain where I get instant feedback and can easily comment on others' blogs. Not to mention the points.....

But, yes, I plan to cut and paste.

I used a free wordpress blog for a time and no, it doesn't cost a penny unless you use your own domain name, which can be as low as about $10/yr. (I still do for a community website I manage) Its functionality depends on the template you select - they vary by function as well as appearance.  Be warned, however, that consumers don't often comment, and you may feel like no one is reading it.  I have also used Blogger in the past, but found it much less flexible and quickly retired that site.

I actually invested in a Real Estate Tomato site several months ago, as many other ActiveRainers have, and it was the best investment I've ever made in my 35 year real estate career - I didn't just get a very functional blog site, I got the most amazing and practical training ever.  Why don't you check them out?  They use a Wordpress platform, by the way, so I was glad I had familiarity with Wordpress.

We use a Wordpres.org not the Wordpress.com... The dot org site allows us a lot of customization and we use it in place of a website.  We do get a lot of consumer traffic but not a lot of comments. I think AR spoils you as far as comments go.  BUT blogging on a platform that is your own is the way to go... in other words  my dot org site is self hosted,  I do do some C&P but not always.  I also have a R.com blog but the .org is by far much better. Currently my site is being moved to our new web hosting company but once it's back up you should go look at it.

Charlie: Thanks for the reminder...that is important...

Cathy: Thanks and I know how you feel about other blogs when this one is so active and friendly.

Margaret: I remember Monika mentioning the real estate tomato in her class...i need to look into that more as I always here good things about it. Thanks for the heads up.

Monika: I did check out your wordpress blog...very cool! It is hard to believe agents are forking out- in most cases- $90 a month for a template website and IDX service when they can create a better site with more link love for FREE. As always, thanks for the super info!
