Granted, the subject is off-topic from real estate. Forgive me. However, as Fox News had a special on tonight called “Jihad USA…Homegrown Terror”, I couldn’t help but be reminded of what I was doing the morning of 9/11.
My second born son, Justin, was born on September 8th. His first night sleeping at home was on the 10th. I was downstairs sleeping on a mattress we had placed on the floor, in front of the TV, with my first born son, Jacob. Jacob was only 15 months old at the time and we felt like it would be best to leave Justin alone with mom upstairs with some peace and quiet. I remember waking up and turning on the TV. I was still half asleep I guess and couldn’t really think about which channel I wanted to watch. For some reason I stopped channel surfing to watch this Chinese news station because of some amazing live pictures of some tall buildings somewhere in China that were on fire. I had no idea what they were saying or what the text graphics read on the TV screen, but I was certainly captivated by these pictures.
Within a few minutes, it suddenly occurred to me that I was looking at the New York City skyline. I quickly fumbled around looking for the remote control and got to an English-speaking newscast.
In my lifetime I have heard people older than me recall what they were doing the day John F. Kennedy was shot.
I find it interesting and yet sad that I too have a clear memory of what I was doing, the morning of one of our nation’s great tragedies, and that someday I’ll share such memories with a younger generation.
What were you doing the morning of 9/11?
I got sent home from work that day. I was working in laboratory in Pennsylvania at the time. They sent us all home.
