1. Kitchen
The most expensive room to remodel is the kitchen. Carefully examine the following.
A. Are the cabinets solid wood or particle board? painted or stained.
B. Solid surface or laminate countertops? Do you like the color?
C. Kind of flooring. tile, laminate, or wood?
D. Newer appliances: standard or built-in? Do they match?
2. Bathroom
The second most expensive room in the house to remodel is the bathroom. You'll want to know if the pipes are leaking and are there leaks or cracks in the toilet, tub, and sink.
3. Heating System
Old heating systems can be a big expense: they can be expensive to replace and expensive to operate, especially with today's seer 13 requirements.
4. Air Conditioning
Central air conditioning units can be costly to repair and could cost several thousand dollars to replace, if necessary.
5. Roof
Properly installed, roofs can last 20 to 25 years. Stripping off one or two layers of roofing before adding a new layer can be very costly. Visually check the condition of the roof from the ground by looking for cracked, curling, or missing shingles. Or get a roof inspection.
6. Windows
Nothing is more annoying than struggling with a hard-to-open window or windows that have broken parts or they have been nailed shut.
7. Insulation
A well-insulated house can help keep you warm in the cooler months, and cooler in the warmer months. A good indicator is the home owners current heating bills.
8. Driveway and Sidewalks
It is costly to repair driveways and sidewalks. Look carefully for cracks and sunken areas.
