The newest version of Wordpress.org is scheduled for release the end of this month, (March, 2008).  This version is designated 2.5,  (2.4 having fallen through the cracks somewhere).

I spent some time searching around trying to find some info about the upcoming release.

The optiniche blog has quite a bit of information: http://www.optiniche.com/blog/382/wordpress-25-revealed-and-compared-to-version-23x/

Looks like a lot of user interface changes.  I'll withhold judgment until I've used it, but right now I'm thinking I won't upgrade all my WordPress blogs right away.  I'll upgrade a couple practice blogs first, and work with it for a while.

If nothing else, all my tutuorial screen shots will now be outdated.  Sigh.

Cheryl - I'll check out the site.  Thanks for the post

Cheryl,  I'm totally with you as is my IT hubby.  I will wait (maybe a long time) before I "upgrade"  because it may not be what I want.  I think I need to spend sometime with your posts to work out some of the problems (they are mine) with current WP.  Thanks!

After the drama of 2.3 (down for 2 weeks)...I'm gonna just sit back and wait.

Shucks, and I just got started with my two WP blogs.

Hoping WP supports 2.3 for a while.

Thanks Cheryl.  The link to Optiniche is helpful, too.

Happy Easter!

I'll wait to see what you find out. I'm nervous to see what happens too. Your so good about doing all the testing for us. I am still trying to figure out 2.3. Yikes..........

Julie ...  My local community blog http://www.nelalive.net is on TypePad, as is my tutorial blog http://www.dablogmother.com   (Its a bit of a hoot, posting WordPress tutorials on TypePad  :-)  )

For a lot of people, TypePad is just the right compromise between ease-of-use and lots-of-design-options.   I really should get back to writing some TypePad tutorials again.  :-)

I don't really know how you have the patience to again and again test these things.  I am on Typepad.  I tried Wordpress and got frustrated.  I used your very helpful tutorials but then thought well why am I switiching.  I am basically happy with Typepad and have gotten used to it and can manuever around.  So why switich?  I switched from Blogger to Typepad for lots of additional stuff.  Don't know yet what switching to Wordpress will do for me.  I will keep reading your posts which are just great and thank you for them.

It is going to be a big big change from all I have read.  I have mixed feelings.... I was going to blog about it on AR but have not.. so I was glad to see CJ did.

Interesting. Being new to blogging I am interested in learning all that I can. Thank you for posting this!

Cheryl, How do you know/decide if the upgrade is worth completing?  I think I am already behind on upgrading as I haven't wanted to deal with it.

Virgina -- I use a SnagIt for screen shots ....  But you can also get a screen shot (assuming Windows here) by pressing the PRT SCR key.

Then start up Photoshop or whatever image editor you like.  Even Microsoft Word will work...  Click  File -> New to create a new blank file, then click Edit -> Paste

Steve -- I have a couple unpublicized sites/blogs set aside just for practicing/experimenting/testing.  When the upgrade is released I'll try it on a couple of the test blogs.  If I decide I don't like it, well, no harm done.

Thanks for taking the time to keep us informed.  I've found your advice very helpful and quite a time saver.  Keep up the good work.

Bob -- I see 2.5 is now available as of yesterday (3/29)  ---- I still trying to finish year-end stuff, so updating my screens may fall rather low on my priorty list.  :-)
