I never picked up on this until a few months ago but there is a secret, unspoken brother and sisterhood in AR...it is called the brother and sisterhood of comment reciprocation (at least that is what I just named it).

I learned this when one of the most popular bloggers on AR wrote a blog that had 200 or so comments... including mine.  Even though I was 1 of 200 or so comments, he still took the time and reciprocated a comment to one of my posts in return.  That was when a light turned on, it is easy to read a comment on your blog and move on but it is a great sign of respect to take the time and do the same for that person.

If you want to have successful blog posts that continually have topics that receive comments and conversation, you have to continually reciprocate comments to those people that support you as well.  People that are always leaving you comments and subscribing to your blog...make sure to remember to reciprocate that back to them.   I am guilty as the next person of not doing this all the time but I continually try to improve on that as well.  Good luck.

Michael:  It is pretty silly to throw a party that you might call a "blog post..." and have people show up, and give you their comments as presents to you, and then you never send them a "thank you" card.  Just how long do you think they will keep that up.  Reciprocating is just a 25 cent word for giving back to others just as they have given to you.  You have learned well.

I agree, that is why I am posting this to get the word out.  I took me a while to really start doing it but it is only fair.

Hi Michael,

Yes, you are so right.  It is even more fun to actually do business with other ACTIVE RAINERS.  Great post!

Hey thanks for sharing the secret, I never thought about it but will start doing what you suggest.  Now that you have posted your blog I think back to the times the 100,000 bloggers have done just what you said.

Michael,

Reciprocation is key to engaging other rainers in conversation, and the conversations lead to real relationships and business referrals.  Thanks for posting.

There have been many good posts on this subject, but I guess we all need someone to continue to point out the things that seem to matter the most.

For more dialog on this subject and with the idea of keeping this important thought about the value of comments in the forefront more reading is available such as: In SEARCH of Comments!

Michael - I agree with you and great post. I also try and communicate with those who post on my blogs - we are building relationships. And then most of them I end up subscribing to their blogs as well. . .
