If you have been using Flickr as part of your SEO strategies; most of that strategy just got deleted.

Flickr has added no follow links to External links and this makes them obsolete as part of your SEO strategy.

flickr added no follow link

Of course you can still use your links to drive traffic to your website from Flickr. Your link is just not going to be followed by the Spiders any longer. This is due to of course to the spammers. They just seem to love to ruin things for everyone. They spam and spam thinking that they are going to get rich over night using these stupid good for nothing strategies. There are some people stupid enough to go to their sites and buy but it always backfires on the spammers so what is the point? It is selfish and a total disregard to others on the internet as well as the very consumers they are trying to attract to their sites.

Flickr is a great site to upload your images to so you don't have to store your images on your hard drive. It is also easy to use Flickr for hosting your photos that you use for blogging and then you just click on the image url and add it to your blog posts. So there are still great benefits to using Flickr.

The links in the Sets and Collections seem to not have the no follow link attached to them. Maybe this is because in order to set up sets and collections it takes some effort and some time which is something spammers stay away from since they are only looking for the fastest way to get their sites up on the search engine top pages.

I see this happening more and more. There is a great site called, Scribd and you can upload your articles and documents and then have a link back to your website from those articles. Well, as soon as Stompernet put out their amazing Web2.0 social marketing strategy video and mentioned using Scribd; guess who came running to ruin it for everyone! You got it right! The Spammers! Again, they go and ruin it for everyone that is legit! Within days Scribd added the no follow link to their site. Scribd is still a great site to upload lots of things and has a resource library. You may just get your article featured and that will bring you some publicity which is always good in our business.

Content strategies with Scribd

Squidoo was Google slapped because the Spammers figured out a way to have software create hundreds of lenses within minutes. We all say our hard work on our lenses go down the drain and fall off the Google front pages. Squidoo had to stop allowing embedded content in order to get rid of Spammers. One guy in South America created over 500 lenses in less than 3 hours! What was his point? Squidoo has great self policing members and they will get rid of spam. Squidoo is back in the good graces of Google again and our lenses are now back on the front pages of the Search Engines. If you would like to set up a Squidoo lens on your market area here is my invitation for you to join Squidoo.

So with all the SEO link back techniques you can be using and creating remember to go back to writing great content and write good keyword rich titles to avoid being shut down when your links are no longer followed.

Well, that really kinda blows, thanks for the heads up. I have been looking into flickr, I am just glad that I did not give them a lot of my time.

Dave Woodson

Dave- I am glad I saved you a bunch of time! I had one client I am coaching do a lot of work on Scribd- it worked great, he got his website on google page 1 position 1,2,3,4 all in just 2 hours, but then Scribd added the no follow! Well, he is fine, because we frantically started blogging for longtail to keep his spots and he did! Katerina

I have never heard of Flickr and Scribd.  I will check those out to see if they have any benefits in use.  I have a Squidoo page but I have not updated it in a while.  It maybe worth paying a visit to get it back up in the rankings.

Huntsville Alabama Real Estate Agent, Kimberly Grant

Kimberly- Yes, I need to add some fresh content to my Squidoo pages. Flickr is no good for link backs and either is scribd anymore. But for other things, they are very useful.

Spammers -- I just don't understand who responds to spam that makes it profitable for spammers to continue.  I guess it's the same people who buy from telemarketers.  Thanks for letting us know.

Kat and Nestor, this is a lot of information! I'm still learning the net gingerly and I will read all that you have mentioned. Thank you for the advice. Later in the rain~Deb

Elaine Hanson, Topanga, CA Real Estate Specialist

Elaine- I never did get it. What purpose does is serve? Who buys what they have? They just ruin it for everyone because of their tactics.

02/24/2008 04:55 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Katerina - glad to hear Squidoo is back in good google graces. Are lenses there good to use as an index to posts on a particular topic or neighborhood that are spread over several blog sites?

02/24/2008 05:08 PM by Sharon Simms St Pete Florida CRS CIPS CLHMS (RE/MAX Metro)

Katerina - It's amazing how much content you are able to put out!  Great info.  Thank you.

02/24/2008 06:08 PM by Twin Cities Minnesota Real Estate - Marzena Melby (Counselor Realty, Inc.)

Katerina - That is a shame.  I haven't used those other sites, but it doesn't surprise me that spammers have ruined another avenue for SEO.

02/24/2008 06:28 PM by Jason Crouch, Broker - Austin Texas Real Estate (Austin Texas Homes, LLC)

Sharon Simms St Pete Florida CRS CIPS CLHMS

Sharon- You could do that. That is a good idea. Bill Gassett wrote a post about adding the AR blog there. You can link back to your blog at AR too from there.

Marzena Melby

Marzena- I do not have the time to post all that I want to post. I have an endless list of ideas and content to post about. I just wish I could clone myself so I could blog more. Katerina

Jason, they ruin so many things for so many of us. It is really sickening because whatever pay out they get is very short lived!

Thanks for the Squidoo tip,

I have done a few lenses but have not noticed any traffic from them.,

I will try it again.

02/24/2008 07:39 PM by Chris Frantz (Hernando County Real Estate - Exit Success Realy)

Chris Frantz

Chris- Make sure they are keyword rich, long tail type keywords, make sure you add content like once a week and have at least 4 modules.

02/24/2008 07:48 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Katerina - do you posts regarding the lenses? I would like to learn more about this.

I have been posting good long tail type keywords with good results on google in my blogs - great to send to clients.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge - I appreciate it so much!

Katerina, another good tutorial post. I have Flickr as well. I'm learning Snagit, but having problems being able to move it into my AR posts. I'll figure it out, but as always time consuming. Similar set up to Photoshop Elements........Thanks for sharing - again! ;-)

this just gets so old.  Things are difficult enough without spammers at work.

Spammers...if they'd just take their smart brains and apply it for a good cause, the world would be a better place!  I don't know how you manage to stay on top of this, but I'm happy I'm subscribed to your blog!

Mesa, Arizona Real Estate ~ Teri Ellis, Realtor & Associate Broker

Teri- Just click save as on the snagit tool bar and then make a new folder for all your active rain photos and you save it in your my photos file. Then when you want to put it in a post, just use your image icon on your active rain tool bar and browse for that file, than click on it and load it just as you would load any other image. If you want to just load by URL, then upload the snagit file you saved as a jpg file and upload it to flickr and then use the URL for that photo for your blog post.

Patricia- But that does not hurt you in the search engines, this stuff they do online does hurt all of us. We work hard for our search engine rankings and to have it all blown to smithereens is not cool! :(

02/25/2008 01:30 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

I didn't know that about Flickr, too bad. Of course the spammers should have a jail fine as the ones who put trogans in download programs.

Margaret Woda, Maryland REALTOR

Margaret- I subscribe to a bunch of news feeds just for the industry of internet marketing and SEO. Before I found AR I was studying relentlessly about SEO and getting organic traffic. What is white hat and black hat so I did not cross the line, etc.

02/29/2008 08:51 AM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Jeff- there are grey areas but I like to stay on the white hat side of things. A Google slap is not a very good feeling to get. I remember the slap at Squidoo. I am only glad I was not depending on just that one thing.

02/29/2008 12:30 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Katerina, I starting using flickr for all my blog pics recently and it is great. It is much easie than uploading them to my Point2 blog. But how do you used it for SEO? I do see my flickr account is googling pretty well, but I am not sure how it is helping my blog's seo.

Thanks for another great post.
