I attended a training class this morning. Now I am all for learning and even just being refreshed regarding something that I already am familiar with. It's good to get another perspective on something once in a while too. Well, this "training" class turned out to be more of a reminiscing hour for the instructor. There were actually 2 instructors - the first one gave some valuable information and a fews tips that will be helpful to me in the future. The 2nd trainer told more stories than anything else. The whole class could have ended at least an hour sooner had he stuck to the agenda and stayed to the course. We were in the last 20 minutes of the session and at that point a majority of the people had zoned out and we not getting anything out of what he was sharing. He even started talking politics - which I feel is totally out of line in a setting such as a training class. So, what Can I take away from this? It's a good reminder that people Don't want to hear you talk about yourself most of the time. Nor do we need to share every nauseating detail when we are relating a story or incident to a client or business partner. People do love to talk about themselves - so let them talk - they will love you for it!! It's good customer relations to allow your client to talk and share things - they will think much more highly of you if you do not interrupt them, allow them to share their thoughts and ideas, and concentrate on what they are saying instead of thinking of what you are going to say next.
This is a good reminder for how to build relationships with customers. Thanks
