Imagine getting a letter in your mailbox that states your mortgage debt has been forgiven... here's your deed!
That's what just happened to my brother; granted the debt was pretty small, but who ever heard of such a thing?
We grew up in the middle of Missouri, every year as kids we got to go to the Lake of the Ozarks. So my brother decided to buy a small piece of dirt their that might be a place to live when he retires or a second home for vacations.
A few months ago he decided he might want to sell it, and as a licensed MO Realtor I looked into what it was worth. Well, it had not appreciated much, if any at all. Basically it had remained stagnant not even enough appreciation to account for inflation.
While this lovely scene may be what you'd expect to see at the lake the reality is his lots are just a wooded area on a cul de sac. Most of the area remains undeveloped.
The location was developed by Forbes and called "Sange De Christo" Forbes Lake of the Ozark. So after years of paying this thing down, forbes just forgives the remaining debt and gives him clear title.
Who woulda thunk it?!
Gee, I hope my lender gets a wild hair and decides to forgive my mortgage. Mine is a bit more than that, but I will be checking my mailbox just in case!
Suppose Visa will send me a letter thanking me for being a valued customer and forgive that debt too?
wow... send em my way!!!!
