I do the Pay Per Click marketing on both Yahoo and Google, and if you do them also, you know they can add up fast.

Here's my problem: I get different "statistics" from different analysis tools.

What I'm really wondering is, "Why does my google stats say I'm getting 50 clicks" on a particilar day but my stats using a stat tracker programs says I'm only getting 12 unique visitors?

I realize cookies may have something to do with it, but that's a big difference. And then I check my web host, Go Daddy, and it says I'm getting like 2800 pages visits on the same day.

Help! What is the best way to track Unique Visitors -- and find a way to increase my Google and Yahoo conversion rates?

Thanks. Paul

5 Comments on Internet Gurus: I need your advice, please, regarding PPC numbers and web page visitors.

I think I am right on this....

A click is different than a visitor.  A visitor actually spends time on the page and navigates through the site...a click is just a click.

The best way to increase your conversion is to make your page sticky...in other words make it so people want to stay awhile.

I use Google Adwords as a means to announce my site and then hope that the content keeps them there.

Another trick I do is announce my site everywhere I can think of.  Every email I send has it in my signature, it is on my cards, everywhere I can think of.

JT I have not tried Google Adwords yet. Can you give me an idea of how they work and how to set them up? I have heard that they word well but no one could explain how.

JT, thanks. I am able to differential clicks from unique visitors -- what I'm saying is I'm paying for xx amount of visitors, but my stat counters states quite differently, only a fraction of unique visitors.

My understanding is clicks don't matter -- it's unique visitors (the number of new visitors) and then conversions.

Anybody know of a great, free stat counter?

Paul - have you added google analytics to your site?

Thomas - they are easy to set up.  You write your short ad, include your web address and bid for what you want to pay for a click.  Some areas are really high....over $5 a click...around here it is about $.75 a click.  The more bidding for the clicks for your area, the higher the price.  The more you offer for a click the higher on the page you go.  Figure out what you want to spend a month and then figure it daily and you are done.  Be aware that if Google does not spend what you allocate daily they try to make it up the next day - in other words if you say $5 a day and they only have enough clicks for $4.50, the next day they might keep your ads running until it reaches $5.50 thus making up the $.50 from the prior day.

Hope that helps!

Thanks JT I think pay per click is something I will have to put off for right now. But I will save this and probably in March get back to it. Thanks again
