I attended a meeting today and the topic was identity theft. I was under the impression, like many others, that Identity Theft only occured with credit cards and driver's licenses. Today, I saw how those are only 2 of the types. Apparently social security numbers is huge also. People use the stolen social security numbers to access everything from bank accounts to car information. Another surprising one was Medical identity theft. The person goes into a hospital and uses a stolen or fake id and the person who has had their identity stolen is charged the entire medical bill. Clearing up these matters can be extremely time consuming, expensive and difficult.

As Realtors, we come in contact with a great deal of personal information. It is our responsibility to protect this information at all costs. Take a look around and make sure that information is secure.

I'm married to a Police Lieut. and we are so careful. It shocks me to see checks that have peoples driver's license numbers on them.  On the back of my credit cards where you are supposed to sign your name, mine says "photo id required" in perm black marker.

LaNita, That is what my mom does also. We see companies every day that do not even check signatures on the back of credit cards. It is scary. People used to put their social security numbers printed on their checks too!
