Type A - Stressed - Leaves home rushed, poor breakfast, and doesn't plan; Arrives at work diving straight in, makes quick decisions, is easily distracted, and takes on too many tasks. Last minute preparation, lots of confidence, ability to think on his feet. No lunch break, eating in a hurry, not leaving the office, doing two things at once. Works late, has no time for family, and forgets important things, doesn't listen, makes unfair demands, delegates at the last minute.
* Is characterized by driving sense of urgency. Type A people can come across as aggressive, competitive, and ambitious.
Type B - Relaxed - Plans his day, makes decision slowly, has ability to concentrate, is obsessed with details, prepares thoroughly, lacks confidence, doesn't always make an impact, eats a proper lunch, makes time for clients, Is approachable, listens well, is often obsessed with detail, leaves on time, spends time with his family, feels happy with himself.
* Is characterized by a relaxed attitude toward life. Type B people tend to be slow moving, easygoing, and relaxed.
3. Transform your Behavior - How?
Type A's need to modify:
i. Work Control
ii. Delegating - assess your workload, give others responsibilities
iii. Learning to listen - Talk less, maintain eye contact, summarize frequently, take notes
iv. Planning - make a to-do list, pay attention to details, prioritize your day, be realistic
v. Relaxing - Make time for relaxation, make your mind switch off, plan quiet time
Type B needs to modify:
i. Setting clear goals, delegating, managing people, considering quality
4. Develop a Stress - Busting Plan - Get to the root cause to eliminate stress
Identify the cause for feeling stressed
Prioritize the causes of stress
Develop a plan to wipe out causes of stress, by dealing with the ones within your control first.
1. Stresses I must live with - Such as death, divorce and moving
2. Those I can partly control - Such as poor working conditions
3. Those I can completely control - Such as taking work home or poorly run meetings.
