Yes, you've heard it before:  it is better to give than to receive.  One of the greatest rewards in helping someone else is the uplifted feeling I get while doing something philanthropic.  If you are not ready for any long term volunteer commitments, it is possible to make a difference in hourly increments.

I volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and I have for the past five years.  I did not intend to do this as long as I have but it has been such a benefit to me.

But you can even offer to deliver meals during lunch for Meals on Wheels.  Or help serve dinner at a homeless shelter or volunteer at the local animal shelter.  I've know others who have sent care packages and written letters of gratitude to the U.S. Military.

When reaching out to help someone, the rewards for me have been immeasurable.

A gift is something you give whether its a present, money, time, or just a kind word with no expectation of anything in return. Thanks for the post

Matt & Joey- we are very fortunate, we have great careers and associate with some of the best folks on the planet!  When I give it always comes back to me ten fold!

I'm with Matt, pay it forward!  I love my Rotary organization and feel that giving back to the community is my responsibility and enjoy every minute of it!

GIVERS GAIN - That's the BNI Spirit.  I tried the BBBS for a while, but quickly gained an understanding of why some animals eat their young.  I started doing more frequent blood donations to the Red Cross and am now doing frequent apherisis (double stick platelet) donation.
