This is about the 4th blog about my love affair with my Treo 650 phone that does so much for me and that I loved more than my Treo 680 replacement.

I got it back from California with Treo Tricks saying there was nothing wrong with it and not returning my battery so that I had to buy a new one.  I put all my contacts back on it, put my supraekey back on it, called my husband to test it and it worked!   Two or three times I tested it.

As I left for work this morning I left the new 680 behind and proudly walked out with my favorite, the 650.  I received a phone call from a repeat customer and as I was visiting with him, he just went away.....gone....couldn't hear him.  I shouted over and over, "Are you there, I can't hear you....hello.....hello...!"

When I tried to call him back, or anyone else, there was no sound.  The phone would ring if someone called me but there was no sound when I picked it up.  When I tried to call out there was no sound!  So it was the very same problem over again.  The same problem that made me send it back to Treo Tricks the second time.

So I am giving it up.  No more money spent.  No more tears.  No more hopes that it will improve.  (But is is still beautiful and shiny and new looking.....).  : (

I have the 650 too and it has many great features. But it does annoyingly drop a lot of calls which is not a good thing in our business. I'm seriously considering dumping mine and moving back to a smaller, lighter, more portable phone............. that doesn't drop so many calls!

I feel your pain.  I got rid of mine and went back to a flip phone with some internet capabilities and I am very happy with it!  I thought about selling my Treo on Ebay.  We'll see.

I HATE MY TREO! Hate! I just got an email from Palm a few days ago saying there is a class action lawsuit because there was an unacceptable failure rate. You might check into it if you've had more than 2 repairs or replacements. Just an fyi.

Jim, thanks for sharing my pain.

Mary Jo,  I thought about ebay too but I'd have to tell the truth about it and then who'd want it.  It is still great for getting into lockboxes and having your database with you so perhaps a separate phone could be carried.

Kim, I read about the class action lawsuit and hope someone wins.  The 600 and the 650 were both faulty phones that sold for high dollar.  I unfortunately can't document repairs in order to be included.  Thanks for comments.

I loved my Treo 650, but I upgraded to a Treo 755p when my 650 lost 3 screws and was about to fall apart. My first 755p died after a week or so, but the one they replaced it with has worked fine. I have a program on mine that boosts the sound.

BARBARA, I hate to admit this but I finally gave up on my Treo and I have never been happier! I will have to do a post on my new phoe but if you want a laugh, see this post I did a while ago:

I own the Treo 700p and I almost absolutely love it.  The only thing I don't like is not getting notice for a new email that has arrived.  I also hate the way the same emails cycle through the phone over and over.  When I 'get' messages they date back to Nov/Dec.  How ridiculous.  Now that you have me thinking, I can't get it to sync completely to see the emails on my computer either.  Maybe I don't like much about this phone after all.

Barbara, I hate these frustration stories about technology. I ranted recently about Microsoft and their Vista operating system and its quirks. Technology bugs and snafus eat up way too much of our time in just trying to do our job. Sorry to hear about your Treo problems.

BTW, Palm is struggling financially. I guess with your story, no wonder.

Charles, I enjoyed that blog.  Our frustrations with phones seem to have no end.  Thanks for comments.

Latonia, I loved the way your mood changed in that paragraph!  I don't do email on mine even though it would.  I decided I could wait til I get to my computer to see all the Viagra emails.

Gary, I didn't know Palm was struggling!  At least I don't own stock.  I haven't had the courage to try Vista yet!  But maybe all this worry keeps up young by exercising our minds!

Barbara, I am not happy with my Treo 700p. The email does not work properly nor does the alerts I have set on it. I up graded from the Treo 650. I should have just got a new phone.

Frank, I'm sorry that your Treo 700p is a loser.  That may be what I have to move up to.  I'm not sure what the weakness of this 680 will be but I have confidence that I will find out in an unpleasant way!!

It was like my phone knew that I complained about it here yesterday. Today was the worst it's ever been. It didn't ring all morning, unusual but I was busy and didn't really notice until I received an email from my wife around 12:30 - "Is everything ok?, you're not answering your phone!" I then looked at my phone - 23 missed calls - IT NEVER RANG! I tried to dial out - frozen. I removed the battery, re-set and bingo 10 new voicemails. Holy cow! This thing is terrible, why did I ever get it??? 3 more times today it cut out in the middle of a phone call - embarrassing. I think I'm ready to chuck this piece of garbage.

Jim, your pain makes me feel better!  It has to be a Treo!  I checked ebay to see how much I might sell my discarded one for.  ebay is LOADED with them at all prices.  So guess I'll stick it in a box in a closet.  One thing about it, though, it still works for lockboxes if I need a backup!

Barbara, Thanks for writing this. I currently use an older Palm PDA, the m515 and  a separate cell phone, the LG VX8350. Since I got the 8350, which works perfectly, I have been obsessing over the fact that I didn't get a smartphone. Your post makes me happier that I didn't. My cell phone has mobile web which allows me to check my e-mail. The Palm m515 still works for appointments, contacts, memos, games, etc. but no internet access. I think when it dies, I will just get another PDA. The main advantage being that there is no monthly fee. Palm seems to be struggling, but it has a beautifully simple operating system. I understand the next handhelds they come out with will have a new system.

Anyway, your post made me feel better about not getting a Treo.

Rich, I'm glad you feel better about your decision.  I guess you get hooked to these smart phones because of the lockbox access and the data base and all the other things that you can do with them. (I don't use the calendar or the email or internet but lots of my friends do).  The fees are kinda steep.  I hate having to pay $27 or so a month to MLS just because I have a smart phone.  The ones who update only once every 7 days should have to pay that because they are late with showing info.

Thanks for comments.
