From SEO DivaLink juice

Several times people have asked this question in my blog comments - Do blog comments pass as much link juice as other forms of link building when made on a 'do follow' blog posting?

After a discussion with an esteemed colleague, as well as some research on blog comments left by us, the short answer to this is yes, they do. Long answer - not only do they carry as much, but they may carry more weight.

Blog comments are typically placed on highly relevant sites. If there are relevant keywords in the comment, this will add to the value, and if a keyword within the comment is linked (not always allowed) the link is highly valued.

A link from a high PR site is going to pass along a lot of juice (for example Yahoo Directory), but how many of those do we get? Remember -  a good link is a good link. Blog comment links on relevant, 'do follow' blogs are free and easy to get. Pass the juice!

21 Comments on Do Blog Comments Pass Link Juice? Yes!

Kay, thanks for the info.  I have really been learning a lot from your blog recetly.

I was under the impression that links in AR comments have a "no follow" tag and as such do not improve your SEO.  It is also considered bad form on AR and per AR guidelines to link in your comments.  Some people don't care and others come unglued.

01/29/2008 02:29 PM by Cindy Jones-Northern Virginia Real Estate & Military Relocation Services (RE/MAX Allegiance #1 RE/MAX Company in the World)

Kay - This is 100% correct.  In fact, my AR profile is now showing 239 backlinks on Google, which is primarily from my comments.  Comments do matter - in fact, I think I may post about this subject, too.

Even if you don't put links in the body of your comments, your signature on the comment leads to your home page, and your home page is linked to your website.  Wouldn't that help your SEO?

I agree totally! You can not overestimate going into the future the  backlinks on sites like Google.

Samuel, I'm glad my blog is helping you.

You are right Cindy. Links in AR comments do have a 'no follow' tag.

I don't think Google had an effective filter for them until just recently, however, which is why you have those juicy Google backlinks from AR, Jason.

When you're on a blog comment link quest, it's a good idea to use the 'do follow' blog searches. Some bloggers don't mind if you put a link in your comments, some do - usually they let you know when you're signing in prior to leaving your comment.

Brian - I think so, can't hurt.

Team DiMuria - Links links and more links. That's still the name of the game.

Kay, I had heard they did and try to put in keywords in my comments.  You have just reiterated what I thought.

Kay - I started wondering about this question myself months ago. I have heard conflicting things on this subject though. It's hard to know what to believe because there are so many opinions on it. Logically It would seem that making comments on a blog would not carry the same weight as getting a good link from a website or directory. It would be much easier for someone to make comments all day long at their computer and gain links. This seems to simplistic. I hope you are right trust me :)

01/30/2008 12:21 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill, some people do make comments all day long and gain links. Some people have automated it (can you say "black hat?"). But to make relevant and meaningful comments that won't hit the spam filter or be deleted takes time and thought.

Okay, this may be answering my question on your other post. So it appears that using keywords and relevant commenting content increases value?

02/01/2008 08:31 PM by Deborah Pearce - Living Spaces - Kelowna Home Staging & Interior Design (Living Spaces Interiors & Home Staging)

Deborah, you should always make a valuable, relevant comment. If you can link the keyword to your site, so much the better. Even if you can't, it's still a link. Sometimes a non-keyword is better, since it's only natural that not all your links will be exact keywords. The goal is to look "natural."

02/02/2008 09:09 PM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (SEO Diva Search Engine Optimization)

Obviously being able to include a link in the comment allows you to create a deep link instead of a signature link to you home page only.

Kay, on your SEOdiva site you advertise the 30 minute backlink product.  Do you endorse the product or are you just allowing them to advertise on your site?

05/18/2008 06:35 PM by Phoenix High Rise and Loft Condo Expert, Will Daly at www.WeKnowUrban.com (WeKnowUrban.com)

As a SEO idiot, this is confusing to me, because I was under the impression that putting links in your comments was frowned upon in AR.  I noticed your response above, but have also noticed there are no links in any of the comments.  So is it helping the persons blog you're commenting on to put a link (that's relevant to the topic) in your comment?

05/18/2008 07:50 PM by Matt Moxhay Moorestown Real Estate (Prudential Fox & Roach)

Matt,

Good question... AR has the no follow tag turned on so it does no good to put a link in... you have to comment on follow blogs for it to do any good.

Good post by the way.

Kay, outstanding info here.  I gotta hand it to you, you are smart.  I love this kind of stuff.  Keep the info coming, and I'll keep reading.  By the way, I've been having a ball with my own Sequim Real Estate Blog.  It's all good.

Kay nice post, it amazing what you learn in a week, the phrases "google juice" , backlink, and no follow did not appear in my vocabulary until last week but as I see they are a must to gain online presence.  Thanks for the info.

@Matt - Mark is right, AR is has the no follow tag. Do follow blogs are great for links, though

@Mark - thanks!

@Chuck - thanks, and I'll check out your blog. Be sure to check out SEO Diva, since that's where I'm doing almost all my blog posting now.

@Bryan - yes, SEO has a lingo all its own. You probably didn't know about "link love" either lol!
