If you believe you have been a victim, call 800-680-7289 which will place a 3 month fraud alert on your account to all 3 bureaus. To place a long term (usually 5 year) alert, you will need to go the the police station to fill out a MISC items police report. Be sure to bring a copy of your reports and any proof  you have. Have them notate if your ID was stolen, or if you believe it was stolen. Once you get a copy of the report, make 3 copies of each of the reports to send to each of the 3 bureaus. Specify which accounts are not yours. Send it cert ret rec mail to the registered agent of each bureau in your state, along with a notarized affidavit (your sworn statement). Keep copies. The bureaus are obligated under federal law (Fair Credit Reporting Act) to correct your report.

Most ID theft happens in restaurants. Beware of using your Debit Card anywhere where you won't see the transaction processed. It is better to use your Charge Card. On a Debit card, your personal accounts can be wiped out!

You can access your annual free credit reports at my website www.restoreyourscore911.com.
