Here's another trick I learned today about inserting images in WordPress....  Mike, see if you like this:

Start by clicking Browse in the Uploader tool.

Choose the image you want and click Open

Click Upload

Now here's the trick.  DO NOT click "Send to Editor".. Instead, click "Edit".

WordPress will display the URL of the image you just uploaded.  Drag over the URL and click Edit -> Copy to copy the URL.

Place your cursor in the text of your post, wherever you want the image to appear, and click the tree icon.

Place your cursor in the Image URL box, and click Edit -> Paste.  The Image URL you just copied will be pasted in.  Then hit TAB, and look at that!  WordPress will detect the image size and fill it in!  Then you can set alignment and horizontal and vertical spacing, and click insert.

I even managed to line up two images side by side using this technique.

I'm getting better at uploading my photos to flickr and using the tree to post them on my blog.  I'm trying to host better quality photos off site for better images.

I love your tutorial, great job.

I do like this aspect of Wordpress, although I dislike having to re-size images manually as Wordpress does not do it automatically like Active Rain and some other blogging platforms do.

This is very helpful. I have tried to upload an image in an announcement, but it didn't work. I will try this and see what happens. Thank you very much.

Barbara,  WordPress is blogging software used to create your own stand-alone blog outside of Active Rain.  There are two flavors:  WordPress.com which is hosted by WordPress, much the same way Active Rain blogs are hosted by Active Rain ... and WordPress.org which is the actual software you install on your own host and run yourself. (The same way you'd install, say, a word processing program on your computer at home).  There is a group dedicated to WordPress here on Actrive Rain  http://activerain.com/groups/WordPressBlog

Cheryl,  It was like you were reading my mind.  I have been struggling with the picture thing.  I have a blog on my website www.christinaoneal.com thru top producer & it is a "wordpress" platform.  I have gotten so comfortable with the ease of AR that I stopped blogging on my own website.  Not a good idea.  Thank you for your tips.

Ms. Johnson - You've just saved me.  I'm starting 3 new WP sites and could not for the LIFE OF ME figure out how to get that URL image!  I even have WP for Dummies!  Apparently I need WP FOR REALLY REALLY slow people!  Best wishes - keep doing Tutorials - I can understand them when I follow along with your directions!

Caution: CAT BLOG AHEAD

Including random thoughts on life, art, business, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate.

What is a CAT BLOG?

According to Seth Godin: "Cat blogs are for, by, and about the person blogging. A cat blog is about your cat and your dating travails and your boss and whatever else you feel like sharing in your public diary."

Well, I am the boss, my dating years are behind me, but I do love my cats.

Enjoy!
