As we all begin a new year I was wondering what other professionals were doing with their time. I'm time-blocking my entire week, with times set aside for several areas of lead generating and I wondered if others are already doing this? What amount of tome to you designate? Do you enjoy it? Has your business grown, has your life been simplified?

Personally, I've got a focus of 1) new business general brokerage, 2) new business new construction, 3) data base referrals, 4) business referrals and 5) book and speaking business.

What is everyone else doing?

 One thing we must do:

Make the calls:

If we'll contact people we'll makemoney and our business will look like this:

Thanks,

Jim

19 Comments on How many hours per week do you lead generate

I've shot for the KW goal of 3 hrs. per day, but fall short to about 2 1/4- 2 1/2 per day.  I've found that calls to my sphere, the SendOutCards program, and networking with local business owners for my community blog take up most of that time.

It's been tremendously effective for me.  I'm not trying to build a mega team, just be productive myself, and the leads I've generated since doing the 2.5 hrs or so daily helped me make 3x more in 2007 than I'd ever made before.  Of course, I've only been doing this since '05!

I've started time-blocking my schedule out as well, rather than fly around willy-nilly by the seat of my pants like I did last year!  When you start  doing more activities such as blogging(I just started another community blog that will take up a bit more of my time) and actively prospecting on a consistent, daily basis you have to block out time. Here's to me getting it together in 2008-it sounds like you're already off to a great start!

Um, not nearly enough! That's gotta change for me. :-) I'd say an hour a week right now....

I don't break mine down in catagories like you do but I spend my time networking, with my SOI, blogging, marketing and of course, phone duty and open houses occasionally.  My outside blog is a growing resource of leads for me.

JIM-  I've found that this business is too crazy and too fast paced if I don't time block. That is one of my New Year's resolutions. I'm actually paring down before I build back. I'm so glad you have joined our office. GBU!!

As a licensed real estate assistant, I can help with this process. When you think about the time commitment involved with lead generation it makes sense to contract this task out to virtual real estate assistant. Think about how much you are worth on an hourly basis; is lead generation worth $100.00 an hour? While you are doing lead generation, you could have been showing properties or doing listing presentations. Why not make better use of your valuable time.

Wow! Time Blocking... in all honesty I feel that flexibility is the only way.  I think in a market like ours, when Buyers are mostly tourists, so much depends on the weather and they all want to see property immediately.  I am trying to keep up the blogging more as I truly do enjoy it.

Two weeks ago I had an inquiry from an active rain blog, he flew over to see the property I recommended and is in Escrow now ~ so I know it pays off!

I'd say probably about an hour a day but I need to keep working on it!

So do I get to count blogging? Seems passive to me and I haven't been counting it as lead generation per se. Hmmmm, maybe I'll rethink that :-)

Have you changed your lead generating because of the market?

08/08/2008 03:39 PM by Jim Fischetti (The Fischetti Group/Keller Williams)

The computer does my lead generation and I do the calling.  The amount of time depends on the day.  Of course, I am new so I don't have a large COI.  I always call my past clients just to see how they are doing and what is going on with their lives.  I never really thought about setting designated amounts of time for each function.

I get motivated to exceed reasonably achievable goals... so I target an hour a day, but often times I am exceeding 2!  If I get into a groove, some days I'll even do 3!

Steve,

Thanks for the positive remarks.

I phone call about 2 hours a day four days a week. I have an auto e-mail program but it doesn't seem to work too well. I use three blogs but I don't get a whole lot of that. I farm a 3000 home neighborhood once a month and it work pretty good.

Charles Good job with the calls Also good work with the farm

I certainly need to set apart more time on a daily basis to lead generate...My partner and I are looking at hiring an assistaint (althouhg I am reluctant) and I am hoping that that will free up more time for me to lead generate...both by prospecting..networking and marketing.

I'm glad to see this post still has some life in it after nine months. With another round of bank-owned homes coming into our market, plus the slower activity of the holidays, lead generation is something that I really need to focus on. Just seeing the question in your title has motivated me.

Jim, short and to the point. I have to get better at scheduling this. Thanks for posting!
