A few days ago I discovered that I couldn't install WordPress on my GoDaddy hosted site because I had chosen a Windows server instead of a Linux server.  I was able to get tech support at 2AM on a Saturday night and I was switch my hosting from a Windows server to Linux server for free, but the biggest surprise was yet to come.

Instead of creating a MySQL database, configuring the WordPress files with a text editor, using FTP to load them, and then running the PHP installer script, I was able to do everything needed to get WordPress up and running from GoDaddy's Hosting Connection subdomain.  All I had to do was fill in the blanks.  No editing and no FTP!

GoDaddy's commercials are incredibly stupid, but I've been impressed with their human support service and with their website management tools.

Thanks!

That's interesting, because I was not given that option when I signed on with Go Daddy to do my site. I was under the understanding that all their servers were Linux.  I do remembering that they told me that since they were Linux, they would support .htm as well as .html extensions. The only difference was that all pages especially the index page had to all small letters, no caps.  8-)

Frank, I believe in GoDaddy enough to be a GoDaddy reseller.

Michael, I have the cheapest plan and I was able to request a server switch from my control panel.  The switch was completed in an hour or two and all my files were transferred for me.

Bill, I'm going to have to look into that myself.  Thanks!
