This blog post was originally titled "Why I'm Secretly Smiling" then when nobody seemed to get it, changed it to "Why I'm NOT Secretly Smiling." Well, that didn't work either, and this tip is SO good, I want you all to try it. So here I go again...
This tip is golden - I promise!
Do you want to know my secret? It's Zimbio, which most people haven't even heard of.

Okay, apparently I've made this as clear as mud. So I'll just say this - go visit Zimbio, it's as easy as pie to use, and see what results you get, especially for your "outside" blogs and any articles you submit. Then YOU"LL be secretly smiling!
I currently rank #1 on Google for "Dirty Sexy SEO" and "Stay Hot for SEO" by virtue of my Active Rain blog titles. I rank #1 on Google for "SEO Dinosaurs" not for my SEO Diva blog, where it was first posted but hasn't yet been indexed, but instead for Zimbio.
(Poor SEO Diva gets neglected because I write too many blog posts at a friendly place called Active Rain! I'm giving her some extra plugs here in hopes she can do better in the rankings.)
Zimbio will ping your blogs (including Active Rain) on a regular basis, or you can go in and ping them yourself. It automagically categorizes them and places them as articles in "Wikizines" on the site. If it can't categorize your article, it places it in a queue, where you can choose the appropriate Wikizine yourself. Better yet, start your own Wikizine. You can look at mine on Cell Towers as an example; I have started several of them because I couldn't find the right topic anywhere else on the site...or because I just felt like it.
GASP! - what about duplicate content?
This is why I'm smiling!
Google apparently DOES NOT CARE that Zimbio contains mostly duplicate content. Zimbio articles seem to rank high in the Google Serps, especially if they're not already ranking via another source. An example is the Squidoo article I wrote on "Free Cell Tower Site Promotion." My client ranks #1 and #2 (first time to rank for that term in the top 30), and my Squidoo article is #3. Zimbio is nowhere to be found.
That said, I uploaded an article to Zimbio titled "Anything Can be a Collectible" and the Zimbio page is #3 on Google for that search phrase, while the blog itself is #1.
Maybe Squidoo and Zimbio cancel each other out - that's one thing I haven't figured out yet, but I have noticed I never see both ranking for the same article. Same thing for Zimbio and Active Rain. Nevertheless, it would still be worthwhile to set Zimbio to ping your AR blog (if nothing else you may get more traffic/clients), and definitely a must if you have an outside blog.
If you do discover the same blog posting from both Zimbio and Active Rain listed on Google, please let me know - it will settle at least one of the bajillion questions swirling around in my mind. What I do know is that Zimbio has a lot of Google juice, just like Active Rain.
Now, are YOU smiling?
Hmmm...I'll have to check it out. Looove that GJuice first thing in the morning! Thanks Kay.
