I promised you some posts on doing SEO for your blogs. Just to give you one example at how fast proper keywords and titles are; I just published a post about The Wellington Home School Support Group's Christmas party and within 6 hours it was #1 and #2 on Google page 1 for the keyword, Wellington Florida Home School Support group.

Now how did I accomplish that? First of all, I used the Keywords I wanted to be found with in my title of the blog post. This is key to Localism posts. We all want to use catchy titles to get readers to read our posts but when you do that you sacrifice keywords. The goal is to have a catchy title with keywords. The title of my post was:

Wellington Florida Homeschool Support Group Christmas Party

All of those words were keywords with the most important ones being in the front.

Then I used the title again in the first sentence of the post. This ties the relevance of the content to the title.

Next I used keywords through out my post. Not too many that the reader would disengage and not too many that the search engine spiders would think I wrote a spam post. The keywords from the title should be repeated in the post about every 50 words or so. But there are other keywords called related keywords that the spiders look for throughout the content. That helps them to know that there is content.

You will notice that I used words like KIDS, PARENTS, HOMESCHOOL and others that relate to teaching and homeschooling.

Then in my photos I titled them all with my title and the description was variations of other keywords.

Now if you go and search in google for: Wellington Florida Homeschool Support Groups, you will see that I am in the #1 and #2 spots on page 1 of Google.

SEO for blogging

If you do this with your Localism posts you can get these same results. Notice that I also used longtail keywords. Try this and see how it works for you. Use unique keywords at first to build up your confidence and then you can try to generalize them more. Just remember that the more longtail the keyword is that the searcher is doing the closer to buying they are. You can tweak it if you do not get the results you want, just go back and edit your post.

Let me know how this works out for you!

My results are nowhere near yours, so I'm going to really take this to heart.  Thanks for really laying this out so we can understand it better.

Katerina, Thank you for this information. I am always learning something new. I never repeat the title in the first sentence great advice.

Katerina, I find that Active Rain has great search engine placement.  Thanks for the pointers.

Katerina: I have not titled my photos the same as the title of the post before. Do you really find this adds value to title them the same as the post?

Katerina,

Thank you for the information.....I am working hard to increase my visibility......this will help......have a great day.

Katerina, excellent job!  I'm amazed at how many Google searches for important terms in my market area bring my blog up as #1, #2, first page of Google.  Keywords in the picture tags -- I'll have to add that to my arsenal.

12/16/2007 09:53 AM by Brian Block -- Northern Virginia & D.C. Real Estate (RE/MAX Allegiance)

Katerina - Good advice. The key is writing for the long tail especially if you are in a competative market for highly used keywords. This is on of the things that many make a mistake on. If you want to get noticed writing for the long tail is important.

12/16/2007 10:38 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Katerina - you are right. The same happened with my post about the shelter for abused women. Someone found it on Google the next day,I can see it in my stats. the issue is that these people were not looking to buy or sell a home, so in that way I am not sure if it's important for generating leads. Of course, if you are looking to generate contacts with other homeschooled parents it gives you the common ground which can eventually lead to business.

12/16/2007 09:06 PM by Kristen Senn * Colorado Springs Military Relocation * (Keller Williams Clients Choice)

Thanks for the reminders.  I've changed my website titles and actually put myself on page one of google for a pretty good term I wanted.  Then I changed it and bounced myself back.  So now I know just how critical the title tag is with those keywords first.  I'm deep into researching keywords right now to figure out just what I want to optimize for and now think I've got it!

Gotta go fix my localism titles!

Jill Wente - Spring TX Real Estate

Jill- I use key words in the image titles and descriptions. Not the same as the title. Depends on the title. You need to change them up if you have a lot of images or it may appear to a spider as spam. So I use different variations of key words that people are searching for within that search. Katerina

Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate

Bill- You are right. Most people go for general and highly competitive key words. The other drag to that is that the consumers that are searching in those terms are very far out from buying or selling, like 12 months +. However, the longtail keywords; the consumer is much closer, the more refined the search, the closer they are to the buying and selling decision. Katerina

Katerina,

I have been doing all this but naming the pictures and putting in a description. I bet Google images picked you up high too?

12/17/2007 12:18 PM by Mike Frazier, Dyersburg Tn Real Estate (Carousel Realty of Dyer County)

Hi Katerina -- This is so helpful.  I'm pretty good at keyword placement, but you've added a lot more info to refine my efforts.  I've seen one term you mention around a lot, but have not investigated it yet.  Please, is there a short way to explain "longtail?"  I think my idea of that term is wrong.

12/17/2007 12:36 PM by Elaine Hanson, REALTOR® ~ Topanga, CA Real Estate Specialist (Pritchett-Rapf & Assoc. Realtors, Topanga)

Mike Frazier-Realtor in Northwest Tennessee

Mike- I have not checked Google images to see how they come up other than our names. I will check that out and see where I rank! Great idea for a post! Katerina

12/17/2007 01:16 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Elaine Hanson, Topanga,CA Real Estate Specialist,e-PRO

Longtail is refined searches.

Topango California Real Estate is a general keyword.

Narrow your focus to a neighborhood in Topango, a school in Topango or a park.

So a long tail would look like this: ChildsPlay Park Topango California 99076(zip code, I obviously made that up)

No commas between the words.

Now someone searching for the park or a school is most likely going to be a mom and the decision to move has already been made. Now you just need them to call you, the expert on that neighborhood and they are ready to buy within the next 3 months. Katerina

12/17/2007 02:06 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Interesting!  Thank you so much.  So the comma placement in keywords does matter.  I've heard both that it does and that it doesn't.  You are thinking further along the state of mind of the consumer than I have been thinking.  No wonder you are ahead of the game.

Elaine Hanson, Topanga,CA Real Estate Specialist,e-PRO

Elaine- The commas separate the keywords if you want separate keywords. Some times you do, sometimes you don't. For long tail you don't. You want it to come up in the search.Perhaps I will post on this in the future. If you are not subscribed to my blog, consider doing so as I write a lot about coaching type posts for agents.  Katerina

12/17/2007 02:14 PM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Katerina, I thought I was!  I'm so behind on subscriptions and associates.  It would make finding the blogs I like (and obviously need) much easier!  Clicking now.

Thanks for the tips.  SEO is my goal for the next couple of moths.  Get up there in there searches and then keep my place there.

Katerina, I love reading your blog posts. This one is definitely a keeper. I did a bunch of reading on SEO over the weekend to internalize what I need to do with each post. I modified my own real estate blog so it would take advantage of the SEO. I still have a lot of work to do, but I'll keep reading your posts. In a few months, my blog will rank #1!

Katerina - Great post - today I posted how those long keywords are paying big dividends to us. :-)

12/17/2007 08:49 PM by Clearwater Real Estate Clearwater Beach Condos & Homes for Sale- Cyndee Haydon (Belloise Realty)

So what you are saying is, make sure the title of your post contains the keywords you'd like Google to find? I'll have to make some adjustments to my titles. Thanks for the tip.

On another note, is there an SEO reason you include profile links in your reply comments?

12/17/2007 08:58 PM by John Fariss - Appraiser Bakersfield, CA (Fariss Appraisal Services)

John Fariss -Appraiser Bakersfield, CA

John- Yes, The title of each of your blog posts should contain key words that you want to be found with.

SO for my listings, I do one blogged post with the address as the title so the seller can find his blog easily, then I do a vflyer with key words in it and then I do another post with a lively title that is catchy for agents on AR to read to get referrals. There are different reasons to do different posts, oh, sounds like a post I should write!

The links are to give you link love!

Google says that it does not give any credence to them, but we have found lots of freaky google juice coming from these. It is a link back to you, a way to say thank you for commenting on my blog, more for you than for me. Maybe you will comment more on my posts knowing I give you link love. Katerina

12/18/2007 10:32 AM by Nestor & Katerina Gasset, Realtors® Wellington Florida Luxury Homes (International Properties and Investments, Inc.)

Thanks Katerina.  I had known about being keyword smart in titling your posts, but had never heard of (or have forgotten) the term "longtail" words.

Hmm.  Now, more stuff to remember!  LOL
