Ever since T. Boardman wrote this post about Flickr, I've been meaning to search out come local Flickr Groups.  But anyone who knows me will remember that I catch on to complicated stuff pretty quickly, while the simple stuff often leaves me baffled.  Well, I finally got a grip on Flickr Groups.

For anyone else who needs a roadmap, here we go:

Join Flickr and Create Your Account if you haven't already done so.

After you've joined and logged in, click on Groups:

In the "Find a group" search box, type the name of your local community and state, or any other subject of interest to you.  Click search.

Flickr will find groups related to your search terms.  Click the group name.

If it looks like the right group for you, Click on "Join this Group?":

Assuming it is what you want to do, you can go ahead and click yes, you really want to join this group.

You probably joined the group because you wanted to add your own images.  To get back to your own images, click "You"

You'll land back on your own "Your photos" page.  Double click on a photo that you want to add to the group you just joined.

In the horizontal menu displayed between the photo name and the image, click "Send to Group" (  You have no idea how long it took me to find that!)

Click on the group name to which you want to send the photo:

Click OK to confirm:

Done!

Prhaps the point is that we would upload photos of properties and locations like the local schools and libraries and points of interest?  That's how I could see using it. Have you looked at www.meetup.com yet?

I ran across it while looking for ways to insert my daughter into a new community 5 hours from her current home. She is good at building a group of friends pretty quickly but, we have had some challenges selling her home in South Florida-it is finally scheduled to close Jan 4th. (say a prayer!) so I thought I would give her some extra reasons to look forward to this long long long awaited move.

Ok I followed the directions and now I have a flicker too! Cool!

I'm still challenged as well.  2 Q's for ya:  Does Flickr let you use photos and repost to blogs?  Also, how did you copy your screen?!?!?!  And then paste it here?!  Thank you!

12/15/2007 07:58 PM by Natalie Langford, Winchester, VA Real Estate (Realty Direct of Shenandoah Valley)

Natalie:  I use SnagIt for screen shots, since I find the SnagIt editor really easy to use for adding circles, arrows, and shout-outs.  PRT SCR, then pasting into a new file in your image editor of choice works just fine too, in a pinch.

Re reposting to blogs:  If you mean copying someone else's photo and using it on your blog ,,,,  it would be OK ONLY if the photo's owner had added and indicated a creative commons license ... more here: http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

Cheryl, Thank you for the information on this.  I had signed up a while ago and got completely confused.  Now I am going to go back and see if I can actually do it, it would be a huge accomplishment for me!  Again, thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

Thanks, Cheryl.  I know it takes time to find and share links!  I'll check into snag it and the two blogs you referenced.  I've seen so many good graphics here, and the sites I've found so far are limited.

In a conversation over on Twitter, Bob Carney pointed me at the Photography for Real Estate Flickr Group.   No, it's not for advertsing listings.  Photogs post photos of properties with descriptions of the techniques, lighting, and exposure used to take the photo.

All this time, I thought Flickr was just another photo gallery site.  Well, it is.  But it is also a social network site.  You can search out and join groups that interest you, you can add people as your contacts, and they add you back.  People exchange comments on each other's photos.

I think I'll put together a list of Active Rain members on Flickr.

Cheryl, you can add me to your list of Rainers, and welcome to Flickr!  I've enjoyed seeing more from my friends here.

Cheryl - Great Flickr post!  While I miss the original Yahoo Photos, I have been slowly getting used to Flickr and all that it offers.

Good Post Cheryl. Flickr also has a lot of Camera specific groups. I joined the Nikon D70 group and picked up tips on my camera and lenses. Check to see if they have a group for whatever  camera your using.

Caution: CAT BLOG AHEAD

Including random thoughts on life, art, business, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate.

What is a CAT BLOG?

According to Seth Godin: "Cat blogs are for, by, and about the person blogging. A cat blog is about your cat and your dating travails and your boss and whatever else you feel like sharing in your public diary."

Well, I am the boss, my dating years are behind me, but I do love my cats.

Enjoy!
