I have to admit that although the company I work for builds Facebook applications, I have mostly found Facebook to be a big waste of my time.

Enter The Facebook Marketing Bible: 24 Ways to Market Your Brand, Company, Product, or Service Inside Facebook. Justin Smith has done an outstanding job of showing what is possible on Facebook. I was impressed enough to print it out, and plan to use it as a guideline on using Facebook.

According to Justin, "Never before has a social platform emerged that combines the authenticity of Facebook's culture with the raw power of Facebook's multitude of viral channels to offer such an unprecedented marketing opportunity."

Okay, Justin, I'm ready to start taking Facebook more seriously!

Thanks, I am going to read this and see where it leads me.  Let me know how it goes with you.

I'm also bookmarking this to see what I can get out of this.  Thank you for the link.

So do you think it is worthwhile to create a facebook account to try and market real estate stuff, or is it probably not worth the time and effort?

12/13/2007 04:14 PM by Alan Barker (Cornerstone Real Estate Professionals)

Facebook is going to continue to grow and expand its boundaries, so I do think it's worthwhile to create a Facebook account, as well as a Facebook business page. You can make the page look like a web page if you like.

I've been curious about Face Book for a while. Now that I've got some marketing coaching, I guess its time to take the plunge!

12/13/2007 04:58 PM by Sean Wheelan (The Mortgage Group, Ltd)

It was a long read, but it was worth it. I guess they made some major changes at facebook in November. I'll definitely check them out.

Thanks... I haven't spent that much time on facebook. This gave me a few ideas for grown up/business use. (hehe I always thought of it as a site primarily for college kids)

12/14/2007 08:00 AM by A Crye-Leike Blogger, Angie Vandenbergh (Crye-Leike, Realtors)

For me facebook is like myspace but for older kids. Myspace attracts teenagersm facebook mainly attracts college students (IMO).

I need to spend more time researching some of these other social medias.  I have a FB page, and well as a MS, and several others.  I just need to spend more time tweaking them to be lead gatherers.

New at activerain and Facebook.  I've done a few posts listing my website on it, but I'm not sure how effective they are.  I will definitely check it out a little closer.

01/14/2008 02:45 PM by Huntsville Real Estate Alabama Walter Jones (Walter Jones Homes RE/MAX)

Matthew - let us know if you discover any hidden secrets on Facebook.

Walter - keep up with the postings - Active Rain is amazingly helpful to web sites.

It looks rather complicated, but I have also heard that marketing on Facebook is very productive.

02/01/2008 10:55 AM by Linda M. Cataldo - Myrtle Beach Real Estate (Century 21 Boling)

It seems like a good investment. $20.00 cannot even buy you an ad!  Thanks for the post!

02/01/2008 05:59 PM by Frances C. Rokicki, Broker~Mentor,CRS (Fran Rokicki Realty, LLC)

Diane - You're welcome!

Linda - Anything I ever put on Facebook seems to end up on Google.

Krista - You're welcome

Frances - Good luck with it.

Great ideas, I like the link you gave us for Facebook.

02/10/2008 08:28 PM by Certified ePRO Trainer

Thanks for the idea!  I have facebook but have primarily used it to keep in touch with friends that live out of state.  Will have to re-vamp it as a marketing/networking tool now!

02/12/2008 07:48 AM by Sandra Workman ABR, CNHS, QSC, RCC (Speckman Realty Inc., GMAC)

Someone said everything they've seen on Facebook ends up on Google...what exactly does that mean?  Thanks!

02/12/2008 09:53 AM by Elena Malfi (Re/Max Tri County)

I have an account in face book and I advice my listings and sometimes foreclosure listings. Facebook is not only for younger generation- we have older people in- From the facebook posting I do get traffic to my website from there. It does not hurt to do that-

02/12/2008 12:30 PM by Keji Iluyomade (Fairfax Realty, Inc)

Thank you!  What a great post.  This is one that should live on and on.

02/12/2008 06:08 PM by Dawn Carlson (First American Title)

Mike - his article is well worth reading following.

Sandra - if you're already there it shouldn't take much to turn it into a marketing tool.

Elena - it means that anything you put in Facebook can be found when you Google yourself (or someone else). Go to Google and type your name in the search bar and you'll see what I mean.

Joyce - you just never know...would it be worth the time if you got a nice fat sale out of it?

Keji - it's good to hear you're getting traffic from Facebook.

Dawn - thanks...it looks like Facebook will live on and on. They keep changing along with the Internet. Now Facebook apps can be used anywhere, not just on Facebook.

02/12/2008 08:00 PM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (SEO Diva Search Engine Optimization)

I never really thought about using facebook to market myself.  Thanks

02/12/2008 08:10 PM by Anna Deal Waddle (RE/MAX Crossroads)

Hi Kay, Thanks for the response, but it appeared that you were questioning the value of facebook also in your blog? It would be nice to get a "nice fat sale" out of it.....so maybe we should take another look at it? Thanks!

02/12/2008 08:11 PM by Joyce Logan (Real Living HER )

Joyce - I didn't mean to sound like I was putting you down, because yes, I was questioning it, believe me, until I read his article, and saw the value. I still have a hard time wrapping my arms around it, especially now that peoples' twitters show up, there's a game my entire office is hooked on, and someone keeps insisting I play Oregon Trail (like I have time)!

 Anna - You're welcome...good luck with it.

02/12/2008 08:30 PM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (SEO Diva Search Engine Optimization)

It is awful nice after a hard days work when you go to facebook and someone has sent you "booze mail". No calories, too.

02/12/2008 09:29 PM by Dee Nofziger, Toledo OH Real Estate (Danberry Co., Realtors)

My boyfriend works for a large (very large) IT company and they are exploring options to leverage facebook -- so it is definitely expanding into many other industries!  I definitely need to add my info asap.

On a separate note, has anyone ever been denied registration to MySpace.com?  I've tried to register three times and it won't let me in!  Maybe they don't like people over 30 years old.  :-)

02/13/2008 02:44 PM by KERRY LUCASSE - Your Intown Atlanta Real Estate Consultant (Keller Williams Peachtree Rd)

Joyce - booze mail sounds pretty good after a hard day!

Kerry - all the big guys are trying to leverage Facebook.  Maybe MySpace would let you in if you got a tattoo.
