Candy house for saleI read an article online that made an interesting and pertinent point.

What is your goal for marketing on the Internet? Do you want to be a source of information when someone is looking for a house, or do you want to be the destination when a prospect is ready to buy?

You can target keyword phrases like "Chandler real estate," which will bring in prospects that are early in the process and looking for general information about the area. However, a keyword phrase like "Chandler real estate agents" is more likely to be searched on by someone who is ready to buy a home and is prepared to close a deal.

Food for thought...

Kay- Can't I be both??? =) At this point I am looking for buyers and sellers who are ready to do business. Informational sites are great but there are many very established sites for my area already in place. I do link to them on my site so hopefully if someone is early on in the process they will appreciate my efforts. Great post.

It should always be information. If you can't provide information, you won't get the sales. Visitors always want to know what's it in it for them, and that should be content.

Terry - thanks!

Scott and Elizabeth - there should always be plenty of information on your site. The point is the keywords you target for the search engines  i.e. your title, headers, etc.

You need to give just enough info without giving it all away.  You must create a reason for the internet customer to call your phone or email you or fill out a form that you can contact them with more info.  With out people interacting with you, what is the use of having a website?

I agree with Elizabeth the site should be very informative. Our sites are geared towards primarily drawing in out-of-town/state buyer leads ( we use other avernues to draw sellers locally), but we also provide a lot of community information, anything to be remembered.
