I worked on a movie set once in Memphis (The People vs. Larry Flynt) and I remember that the chow wagon did not serve turkey. Why??? They didn't want everyone falling asleep after lunch.

It has that magic chemical that makes you sleepy. I always wondered why everyone fell asleep in the couch or lazy-boy after the Thanksgiving feast!  Wow...how funny is that?

Lets see how much you really know about turkeys and Thanksgiving. Take my test and post back your score. I thought I knew a lot about turkeys and I scored 10. Actually, I like being a 10!

Here in the south the big thing is deep fried turkeys. Crispy on the outside and juicy meat inside. Seriously they are pretty yummy and it's quite a cooking feat to perform! Learn how to deep fry your bird and amaze all your relatives this year! They will be talking about it for years and you will become a legend!

This year I have been invited over to my brother's house for Thanksgiving. I'm sure it will be  a traditional type of meal. Baking a turkey is really what most people do. Most always it turns out great...but every now and then disaster strikes!

Remember A Christmas Storywhere the dogs get in the back door and eat the turkey off the table? Then the family went to the Chinese restaurant to eat. The waiters try to cheer them up and sing (Faa-Raa-Raa-Raa)! Funny stuff! I love that movie! Seriously, I love some sort of drama during dinner to lighten the somber mood.

Here's something really funny to do to shock relatives. How about baking a pregnant turkey? This is hysterical to pull off on your family. If I was in charge this year, you can bet I would attempt doing this! It would surely go down as something of legend when they talk about me later in the nursing home. "Hey, do you remember when old Aunt Lizette actually baked a pregnant turkey and little Suzy passed out cold in the floor?" Yeah....you need to be remembered fondly when you get old.

Well....all this chatter about turkeys is making me hungry. Coffee only goes so far in the morning. So when I get back in here with my turkey sandwich, entertain me with your wildest Thanksgiving Story. Come on...I know you have one!

HAPPY TURKEY EVERYONE!!!!

Hi Lizette,

I too love Turkey--but when I see these magnificent birds I wonder if I shouldn't be a vegetarian like my daughter.

I must admit that I like turkey much better than any other meat. My score though was bad - 8 correct. I guess when it comes to turkey trivia I am a turkey!

Karen - You are exactly right! It's amazing how it works. I guess i won't get any more work done after I eat this sandwich. ZZZZzzzzz

Leslie - I have pondered that same idea. I know it would be better for my health but I love chicken, fish, turkey and steak. I'll think about it later(Like Scarlett).

Gary - I think those questions were hard. Some of my guesses were right. I was just lucky I got 2 more right! I know you are going to enjoy your turkey this year. Now you can amaze all your relatives with trivia.

Lizette--OK my brother was about 6-7 and his neck was just the same height as the open oven door. My sister knocked him into it as my mom took out the turkey...Emergency room on thanksgiving. Then there were my cooking fiascos where we at everything else first because the bird took longer than I thought. Now I bring pies to my mom's! Your ideas are much more fun!

Hi Lizette - what a fun post!!  I got 10 right, most of those were guesses, too.  I'm not a big fan of turkey, just don't really care all that much for it.  Now, give me a ham any day!

I LOVE that pregnant turkey story!  I would love to see that played on someone - what a hoot that would be, and it would also make a great America's Funniest Home Videos show, too.  LOVED it!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Lizette, I completely failed the Turkey test :(  I got 5 right out of 20, I apparently know absolutely nothing about turkeys!  I have never had a deep fried turkey but hear they are wonderful; except for the man I heard about that set his garage on fire by accident.  Cute post but I have to brush up on my turkey knowledge.

Carole- Just think how much you learned about turkeys today. Now you can impress everyone with your newfound knowledge! I didn't know much about how to deep fry one until that article explained it. Fascination how to use water to figure out how much oil to use! Amazing! LOL

Karen- Thanks for the invite. I will stop in and take a look. I have one fantastic fudge recipe that beats most any fudge I have ever tasted. It only takes 9 1/2 minutes to make in the microwave. All my girlfriends rave over it.

Guess I really am a turkey on this one, I only got 6 right!!  The sad thing is, the 6 I got right were the one's I guessed!  I'm having HAM this year! LOL!  :-)

Brad,

Sorry for you, I love turkey and the ahhh so calming effects it has on everyone after dinner... did you ever experience that...ham with all the salt increases blood pressure and everyone seems a little more hyper...

Let us know...

Karen - I'll try to get over there tonight and post it. I'll put it on my blog too for my friends. Maybe I will make some tonight and take pics in progress!

Brad - No turkey for you! I sound like the Soup Nazi from Seinfield.

Lizette,

Thanks, Do we not feel bad for Brad???? I do....ahhh the football game, the kids are watching too...that's with a turkey...LOL

Karen- I just went over to check out your group. Pretty cool... I might put a different recipe there though because my fudge one is my FAMOUS recipe and I want to reserve the rights to it. Hmmmm...I'm doing too much thinking. Funny I was just talking at dinner tonight with a girlfriend about marketing my famous fudge. Maybe the ingredients should be a secret! Maybe, I can't tell anyone and keep the whole thing locked in a safe like Colonel Sanders (KFC)chicken or the Coke recipe.  This is BIG! Shhhhhhh!

Lizette,

Poor little things, they taste delicious, but just see those poor little things that they are killed, the same as cows and chickens, hm... well, it is the circle of life,  I love thanks giving and these hollidays, still I remember my old times. I like the right photo, seems a poor little turkey very delicious.

Lizette,  I got 6 right and thank goodness old Ben didn't prevail - how can you have a national bird that can't soar above in the bright sky?  Besides, I'm not sure eagles would be as tasty as turkey and since they sre protected we can't try them out, Karen

11/20/2007 04:43 AM by Karen Kruschka - Fairfax Prince William Stafford County VA Real Estate Service (RE/MAX Allegiance)

Lizette...

Geesh. I don't have a funny Turkey story. Yet.

Turkey is about the only thing I know how to cook. I haven't screwed it up. Yet.

How about cooking a turkey and forgetting to remove all the bird shot. Does that count? :)

TLW...ROAR!

Ray - I don't like the idea of what a turkey has to go through to be on the plate but it sure tastes yummy!

Karen - Eagles are too beautiful to eat. Six is not a bad number....much better than a 5!

TLW - Yes...that would count as a funny story! You're kidding, right??
