This week is a very special time for us in our country. We celebrate "Thanksgiving."

I'll never forget my son, when he was little said, "So, all we do for Thanksgiving is eat dinner?" In a little boy's eyes, not waking up to a mound of gifts under a Christmas tree, or hunting for a basket filled with treats, made this holiday seem a little less special. As my children have grown, they have learned that Thanksgiving is one of the more special holidays that we share.

There is no hustle and bustle to get tons of shopping and decorating done. It's a much more relaxed pace. There is not a ton of stops and craziness, just a large family gathering and fun stories of years passed. My children have learned to enjoy this holiday the way adults do, at an early age, because they understand the value of family.

This year we have a lot to be thankful for... comment or write about it.... it's great to tell everything the things that mean the most to you and to share it for the rest of us to open our hearts and minds to all the good that is out there!

We have so much to be grateful for, and the meal ritual on thursday is just that, a reminder of how good things are.

As I was sitting in church today, the minister reminded us that it is Gods command to give Thanks! Great Post!

We do have so much to be thankful for -- especially the freedoms we have in the united states.  I wrote a blog about sending thanks to our troops -- you may want to check it out and send a card.  Happy thanksgiving.

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

Things for Which to be Thankful

Trains, cars, airplanes, horses and buggies that allow us to travel great distances to share Thanksgiving with our loved ones.

The spouse who complains when dinner is not on time, because s/he is home with me, not with someone else.

The teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because that means she is at home & not on the streets.

The mess to clean after a party because it means I  have been surrounded by friends.

The taxes I pay because it means that I'm employed.

The clothes that fit a little too snug because it  means I have enough to eat.

My shadow who watches me work because it means I  am out in the sunshine.

A lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning  and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

All the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech.

The space I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking.

My huge heating bill because it means I am warm.

The lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means that I can hear.

The piles of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been productive.

The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because  it means that I'm alive.

Getting too much email bogs me down but at least I know I  have friends who are thinking of me.

It is wonderful that we set aside a day to honor being thankful, but we should treat each day as a day of thanks and be grateful for all we have, are able to do, or enjoy.

There are so many things to be thankful for and people to be thankful to.  Any breath can be our last and there will be no further opportunity to say thanks.

The least we can do to our creator is say "Thanks!" everyday.  "Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD."  - Psalm 150:6
