I have had at least 2 comments on my blog Tuesday about teaching short sales. The interest was that I blog the class in parts. I can do this, but if no one is interested I don't want to start something if the training isn't needed or a good idea. So let me know. I will try and do it at the same time every day so that nothing is missed. Let me have an idea of what time you think will be good. Please respond.
I, and another Realtor, just created the Polk County Pre-foreclosure Specialist Team! We need as much information as possible .. We were challenged by our OP to get aggressive with this market that not to many other Realtors are interested in handling. We added 5 agents on our team and have another 6 wanting to join.
Like everything else in Real Estate, short sales are a niche market for the right people. I don't think every Realtor has the ability to work these properly.
Steve: I think you almost hit the nail on the head... Short Sales are definitely a niche market and definitely require some sort of training, experience, guidance or mentoring to understand and work properly (assuming you have your client's best interest at heart). Any agent can get the training or guidance (you don't have to be a rocket scientist to "get it") but in my experience of nearly 4 years of Short Sale specialization, many just don't care to take the time away from other activities that take less effort and might result in more direct revenue generation.
Brad: KWU just came out with a short sale class a couple of months ago. As a KW agent, it would definitely be a good place to start. I have reviewed it and the information is definitely at the "national" level and does not speak to local market conditions and nuances, but it is good solid information to build a foundation of knowledge from.
I have started a group Sharing Information of Short Sales and here is where the information will be poster. Feel free to add content, ask questions, and help one another with this segment that is so prevalent in our market today.
Excellent Mark - I look forward to learning more too. I have a friend/client who is having some difficulties and may be heading this way, unfortunately.
Brad: If I can offer any advice, guidance or assistance, please feel free to contact me directly by phone or e-mail. I will be happy to help any way that I can. As I had to teach myself about short sales (since there were no classes a few years ago) I understand how difficult it can be to absorb all the info necessary to conduct these transactions properly for your clients.
I'm interested-- we are getting a large number of short sales in a short (pun intended) period of time.
