Tomorrow I have my first ever hearing before the Seminole County value adjustment board.  I am contesting the assessed value of one of my rental properties. 

I have contested values in the past in Orange County, Florida and have been successful many times.  In Orange County I have always been able to work it out with the property appraiser's office prior to a hearing.  I did contest one of my Orange County rentals this year and was able to get the value reduced by almost $21,000.  This is a follow up from a prior blog, Central Florida property taxes, when I contested the Orlando property.

I am trying to get my value in Seminole County dropped from approximately $161,000 down to $140,000 which should save me around $400 this year.  I sure hope this happens.  It is still an increased value from last year when it was assessed at approximately $129,000.  Unfortunately even if I can get the assessed value reduced my taxes on this property still increased since 2006.  I am absolutely amazed that the property appraiser still thinks values are increasing. 

I will report an update on what happens at the hearing.
