Tonight the skies will be well lighted for a little while. Tonight the Kennedy Space Center will be launching one of the big boys - a Delta IV rocket. The launch window is from 8:39 p.m. to about 10:40 p.m. If you have never witnessed a night launch, it really is spectacular. Although a night time shuttle launch is a little bit more exciting, seeing a rocket launch at night is still something! The view from Cocoa Beach or the Cocoa Beach Pier is unbelieveable.

If you can't be here, here is a link to Florida Today which has the info as well as a launch web cast. A lot of folks work at Kennedy Space Center and the associated space related companies so these launches are important to the entire Spacecoast.

Hopefully, the winds will be down....and the launch will go!

8 Comments on The Skies will Light Up Tonight in Brevard County Florida

Gary, Do you know if anything else was launched, or returning earlier this week? We always hear the atmospheric "boom" and I could have sworn I heard one a few days ago.

Ok, Gary...I am going to check it out and see if we can see it here!  Thanks, I missed that one...

Lisa - Could have been the shuttle landing a few days ago. It always make one heck of a boom...

Midori - The skies did light up but not as brightly as a night shuttle launch. I still like to watch the launches.

Thanks for the comments, "Ladies of the North!" - north of me...

I've never seen a night launch, but I've wanted to.  I just didn't want to drive all the way across the state with the possiblity of a scrubbed launch which happens all too often.

By the way, thanks for commenting on Socrates' Advice on How to Handle Negative People

Dan - I understand that drive only to have the launch scrubbed. Even locals get a little frustrated sometimes.
