I see that many of you are essentially "photo blogging" on Active Rain. (See my post No Time? Start a Photo Blog)

Have you thought about adding the same information on an independently hosted blog, with a keyword rich domain name, to give added links to your site? Not only that, you'd have more chances to pick up home buyers and sellers that are researching homes and agents on the Internet.

This seems like a real "no-brainer" to me. It would take a little time initially to get the domain name and set up the blog. After that it would take almost no time at all to copy the AR posting, pop it into the blog, add a different title and tweak the content and alt tags.

Okay, 3 posts in one day - I need to stop browsing Active Rain so much!

Hi Kay,

Guess I don't see the need for a seperate photo blog. I read your link posting and still feel the same way. Seems to me those of us who add photos hope it will help communicate our message and enhance the eye appeal of the copy.

And why wouldn't I want a prospective buyer to not only see my properties, but also get to know me better through my writing? Am I missing something here?

Thanks.

Hi Linda - Most people think of AR as a real estate forum for Realtors. To be honest, in the past year, although I was aware of AR, it didn't occur to me to look here for homes for sale.

An independent blog is another way to reach people that are more accustomed to reading blogs as separate entities. You should, of course, write an occasional article on that blog too, but aimed toward the consumer rather than other real estate agents.

Also, as hard as links are to come by, it never hurts to build your link base.

Kay,

If you're talking about an outside blog that's one thing, many of us do. And I'm in agreement with linking, etc. Most of my posts on AR are localism, therefore hopefully they reach the consumers. Better tags, better exposure in the long run.

I thought you somehow said "photo" blog, guess that's what was confusing to me. Thanks for your response.

Lynda, actually I did say "photo" blog - referring to the type of blog I wrote about in my previous post. Many agents complain they have no time for a blog, but that would be a simple way to get an outside blog up and running without having to write a lot.
