Today I journeyed to the Manchester, NH VA Hospital to attend the "Welcome Home" ceremony for our soldiers recently returned home from Iraq.

"Green Berret" judy tuscano cMy husband, Mike, and I sing in an ensemble called "vox jubilante" which means joyous voices. We were asked to sing for this event where many dignitaries from the state including Governor Lynch would be in attendance.

Governor Lynch judytuscano cThe time for our appearance was scheduled from 11:45am to 1:00pm.

When we arrived at 11:00am the room was crowdedwith people chatting, raffle tables selling their chances and a band playing.

There were men in wheelchairs and scooters as well as men and women in uniforms. Many volunteers wore their red t-shirts so they were easily identified.

We left the room to go warm up. We returned to a room with very few people? We had no idea where they had gone but we were asked to sing so we set up and started. Amazingly as we went forward with our program people began to drift in from the halls. The seats that had been empty began to fill up.

We prayed before this program that we would be able to capture hearts with our music. As we sang and looked at the audience there were men & women with tears streaming down their cheeks. Hearts were touched, thank you Lord. Vox Jubilante judytuscano c

By the time we were finished the room was full again, this time with men and women asking all kinds of questions about us and would we be willing to come again. How could we not?

These people put their lives on the line in the service of our country. Many suffered life altering injuries. They gave all they had. How could we not give them some hope, some joy, some peace of mind with our music. I count myself blessed to have this privilege once never mind twice.

How very special Judy! I bet your voices were just amazing! I can just imagine how it must have felt.

Moni - It was so special seeing those men hearing the message of love and hope. I know we have no idea the impact but we have a little glimpse. They want us to come back and sing for the guys on the floors that can't make it to the rec room without too much difficulty. If I had to give up my job to do this full time I would. It was wonderful.

Mike, Judy - Thank you for being one of the people that don't forget what our vets mean to our country. So many people now would rather spit on them instead of shake their hands and thank them for their service. What you did, was special and I promise it was appreciated!

Todd, Thank you for stopping by. I agree that our vets deserve more than we even realize. Unless we have walked in their boots and been in situations where our life is on the line day in and day out, how could we know. My heart has always been drawn to these people who in my opinion are true heros. They deserve all the gratitude we can muster. I could go on but it may get political and I don't want to walk down that road here. Thanks for your comments and have a great day.

Judy I am glad everything went well.  I was so bummed that I could go with you all.  I am planning on seeing you all again on Tuesday.  I know that blessings that you guys brought to them are more than you could ever know.

In thinking of veterans I always remember Kennedy's words, asking not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Thanks for bringing the cherished veterans some joy.

It was my honor to bring them a little joy. You are right they are the epitome of Jack Kennedy's words. Thank you for mentioning that.

Judy, that is BEAUTIFUL!!  Our son finished his first tour of Iraq last January and is scheduled to go again in March.  He was in Germany when he got back the last time so I don't know that they had any special celebration but I think it is great that someone had this for them.  Was it a guard unit that was returning home?

11/15/2007 03:39 PM by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro ABR (Results Realty)

Marchel - We actually missed the formal ceremony as we were scheduled to sing after it was over so I'm not sure. I do know that Gov. Lynch was there and a lot of the people from the state house and diffrent branches of the service. we were blessed to be able to go meet some of the men that are able to get around. We were asked to come again and sing on the wards to the guys that are confined to beds. The date isn't set yet but we are all looking forward to it. Thank you and your family especially your son for his service to our country. I know that the families of our service men & women have a hard road to go. I will keep you and your son in prayer for a safe return home on his next tour. We just had a friends' son return home after 18 months in Iraq.
