To some in the real estate field it is business as usual. Unfortunately business as usual for many is a recipe for failure. Doing the same thing day after day for the past year has resulted in them receiving the same results, zip.
At our weekly business meetings we discuss the importance of analysing what each agent is doing and the success their efforts produce. We cover their prospecting efforts, their marketing efforts and their wishful thinking efforts.
To emphasize the point of doing the same things over and over without favorable results I drew a simple maze on our dry erase board at the start on one of our recent meetings and through out the meeting, I would stop and try to work my way through the maze. Each time I purposely took the same route that led to a dead end. The agents started getting frustrated at my seemingly lack of sense and maze working abilities and they would shout out direction. I of course would ignore the direction and end up a the same dead end.
The point was well received by my agents. If your business plan is not working, you can be a positive thinker until the cows come home and you will still have nothing to show for it at the end of the day. If your day is filled with only hearing the sound of a printer printing off a gazillion post cards for direct mail, you may need to adjust your plan. If your day is filled with sitting at your desk whispering to yourself, "If I sit here they will call", you may need to adjust your business plan.
This market offers opportunity to those who take it. The question is will you change your direction and successfully navigate the maze when others cannot?
