A year ago my wife Monika came to bed and woke me up from a sound sleep asking me if I could upload her picture to her blog. She says I just rolled over and said "OK". When I woke up the next morning I went to her computer to find out what she had gotten herself into. While she snoozed away I found she had opened an account with Realtown. That started the beginning of our blogging as she caught the bug and she and I haven't stopped.
There was so much to learn and so little time. Familiar saying right? Once hooked she talked me into trying and I was more into trying to figure out what RSS feeds were, permalinks, trackbacks, podcasting, pings, technorati, web 2.0, mysql, myphpadmin, and etc... So much to learn and when I caught on to something I really thought it was an accomplishment. The more I caught on the more I wanted to learn.
I started on a platform called squarespace and then decided to go to Realtown and then Ann Cummings turned us on to Active Rain. This is where we really got hooked. Being competetive the points in the begnning were challenging as we leaped frogged above a bunch of agents that didn't seem to be doing much blogging. Then once we saw our google rankings move us closer to page one in a quick time we decided this was getting pretty good. Once we saw that the public was viewing our posts we ventured out and started our outside blog.
Once I did some research I decided it was best to use our own domain names to build our new web blog. Then I decided to find a platform that would be easy to use and to have a lot of flexibility and be able to build on it by adding a lot of different features. That's when I found WordPress.org as opposed to WordPress.com and learned the difference between the two.
Now my goal is to learn how to create a blog site by using CSS Style Sheets. I have learned a lot by reading Mary McNights posts on her blog RSS Pieces. If you want to learn how to blog her site is a must read.
Congrats on your one year anniversity - Keep it up
