I have been using Active Rain for a while, but decided to rejoin "newbies" because I really don't understand the "associate" and "associations". I want to do things right. If I find someone that I think writes consistently interesting blogs, I typically want to add that person as an associate, but I'm not sure that I should. Do I need to ask permission? I know too, that I can subscribe to someone's blog without adding them as an associate.
What about associations? I think that is when someone adds me as an associate. Is this correct?
What is the significance of either associates or associations.

I would like to know if Colleen got a reply - how Do you add an associate? And why - as a blind reciprication? As acknowledgement that you would like to work with them, or have worked with them?
I like to add Associates from places that I might want to send a client, or vice versa. When you add one, put a little comment in the box to remind yourself what's special about the person. It's very easy.
