A backhoe operator pierced a gas main today before lunch at the intersection of Kildaire Farm and Tryon Roads in Cary, NC.   Our Keller Williams Cary office is just down the street less than a quarter mile.  This is one of the busiest intersections in Cary, and will be blocked off for most of the evening, and then as long as it takes to repair the road.

Businesses were evacuated, and ambulances to the nearby Wake Med Cary Hospital were diverted.  Traffic will be snarled all evening, as the fire continues to burn while the Gas Company attempts to install a stop valve.  Flames reach an estimated 100 feet into the sky.

From about 1000 feet away, with all the zoom I have

Of course, this is a news bonanza, with all the usual suspects camped out:

Sure did Marchel.

I like a little zoooooom in my lens under circumstances like this.

And I was looking at all that water and thinking about our drought...

Dang, You were close to all of that today. Great Pictures. Yes the drought is on my mind also. I heard last week we have 120 days of water.

Susan,

I was close enough.

Some fellers tried to get closer and were offered a reservation at the lock-up...

Your information is incorrect! Not a backhoe! Maybe it is the dill on the back of that truck on fire!

"...not a backhoe."

Sort of a moot point to all but the attorneys who will sort it all out.

It was a drill, yes.

I should have not relied on the radio report, and thanks for pointing it out.

Mike,

I saw this on the news the other night.  I was amazed that they repaired the road as quickly as they did.

Rita,

When Kildaire Farm Road is blocked, life gets difficult in S. Cary.  I bet they had the equipment idling nearby ready to slap down a road immediately.

I was over at the lochmere office when that was going on.  I should have brought my camera.  I was rerouted through the whole foods parking lot on my way to Trader Joes...amazing

Tracy,

They got the road fixed just in time for me to go down the street for a showing...
