Now that you have the warm, friendly content you wrote for your home page, let's fix it up. (If you haven’t done so, you may want to read my previous post,
Real Estate SEO - Tough But Not Impossible.)
Divide your copy into paragraphs of no more than 2 or 3 sentences. Now write a header for each paragraph, using keywords, and make it bold. For example:
Homes for Sale in NeverNeverLand
If you’re looking for real estate in NeverNeverLand, Peter Pan Realty has current MLS listings of beautiful tree top homes, cozy cave dwellings, and cute grass shacks for first-time home buyers. Our Realtors want to help you find the home of your dreams.
Most people skim web pages, and they will only read your headers. If it’s something they’re interested in, then they may slow down and read the paragraph itself. Because the header is in bold type, the search engines will give it more weight, so it’s important to have keywords in it.
Internal LinksIt’s important to have internal links on your home page. Find keyword phrases and link them to interior pages on your site, per my example above. Use the full URL, for example
http://www.peterpanrealty.com/grass-shacks. You don’t want to overdo the links, however. My suggestion is no more than 2 or 3 per paragraph, not in every paragraph, and no more than 20 links total on the page, depending upon how much content you have. You need to use judgment, so your page doesn’t look like a mass of links. Don’t get rid of the underlines – you want people to know the links are there.
Footer Text LinksPlace a footer at the bottom of the page, with links to the other pages on your site. This footer should be on every page of your site.
