Having just read My Client is a victim by Rick Grand I couldnt help but share this one from CNN.....

NEW YORK (CNN) - Two men have been accused of stealing money from the personal bank account of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Manhattan District Attorney's office announced Tuesday.

Charles Nelson, 31, was charged with grand larceny and identity theft after stealing $10,000 from the billionaire in an online transaction on May 11, the district attorney's office said in a news release. The defendant allegedly transferred the money into an e-trade account and then withdrew it using a debit card.

The release said Nelson was arrested in Newark, N.J., after authorities discovered a computer, documents and two guns linking him to the crime. He was to be arraigned in New Jersey on weapons charges and then transferred to the district attorney's office.

Authorities discovered the withdrawal after being alerted to a different transfer from Bloomberg's account allegedly attempted by Odalis Bostic, 24, of Elizabeth, N.J.

I have never been a big fan of Hizzonor Bloomberg but I think it says volumes that such a high profile individual, with a financial background to boot, would fall victim to this up and coming crime.....

It is amazing that no one is safe from this crime. The scary part is your credit is the least of your worries, but it is the only part that most people know about.

There are much worse aspects of the crime such as Medical ID Theft ( someone getting medical tests..HIV, or medical services in your name, and the don't have to be in the same state to do it.).

Drivers License ID Theft (someone getting your Drivers ID with their picture on it. They could get a DUI, Hit and Run, Vehicular homicide in your name and you would never know it until the next time you were stopped and ended up in jail.

Social Security ID Theft (someone getting you SSN, using it to get a 10-99 job and not pay the taxes on earnings, applying for benefits in your name.)

Charater  ID Theft (someone commits a crime and gets arrested using your name.)

My wife had a friend who had experienced this first hand. She was all of 4'11'', she was driving to a cookout at a friends house who happened to be a police officer. She was stopped on her way there for having a brake light out, on a normal day this is no big deal. She pulled over and waited for the Police officer to come to her window, but he didn't. When the second and third police car showed up she didn't know what to think. Until the performed a Felony Traffic stop. In short they removed her from the car at gunpoint. She was being arrested for Drug trafficing, and Prostitution. After a few days in jail and a lot of attorneys she was released. She now has to carry a file folder with her everywhere she goes in case she is every stopped again. Her name still isn't fully cleared over 2 years later.

I have found a proactive service that could have saved her from all of this nightmare. Not many people know about it yet. It is called Prepaid Legal services. once finding out about what this service can do, I have made it my responsibility to let everyone in the US and Canada know about it.

Choicepoint has recently announced that some customer’s personal information was compromise by imposters who identified themselves as legitimate operators.

Choicepoint was a company that spun out of the data revolution.  In a short seven years, this company had collect records on almost every living adult in the US. It is a large data compiler, which also buys data from as well as collects info that is sold to governments, FBI, major corporations, credit bureaus, insurance companies and others for credit cards, employment and many other purposes.

When word came out about this it was characterized as a major national security issue. It is very had to get a hold Choicepoint and it has been suspected for some time that there is no accountability as to what this company does with information it collects.

Research this for yourself and see if you can find info as it is expected that 10 million records were affected.  The Federal Trade Commission is supposed to be investigation this breach of security.
