As a member of the Post Falls Community, I received the Post Falls School District #273 Fall 2006 newsletter.  Unfortunately, it is not available electronically, although you can access other resources on their website.

One article in particular will affect all of the Post Falls property owners.  Prior to August 25th, 2006, each Idaho property tax payer paid $3.00 per $1,000 of taxable value of their property towards the cost of running the K-12 public schools in the state.  The Idaho State Legislature convened a special session on August 25th, 2006 removing school maintenance and operation OFF the property tax rolls.

What this means to you, the Post Falls property owner.  The Post Falls School District tax rate will change as follows:

• 2006 = $5.61 per $1,000 of taxable value
• 2007 = $2.18 per $1,000 of taxable value 

In order to support this decrease, the Legislature approved the increase of state sales tax to 6c, from 5c.  This helps place the burden of public school on all users, not just property owners.
