Last Friday night a group of us were invited to join others who were going to check out  Scooters in Moulton, TX.  We have all been looking for  a place to go kick up our heels and dance a little with out having to drive into the Austin area from Bastrop.

Moulton is a small town located about 30 miles south of Bastrop/Smithville on 95 just past Interstate 10, (close enough if someone wanted to make a  drive from Austin or San Antonio.)

Scooters a small tavern located on the main street in town with the old brick store front,  has expanded into the building next door and now includes large screen TVs, a stage, great dance floor, and wonderful bathrooms.  They have music on Friday and Saturday nights and have a Sunday afternoon venue too.

We got there early (7pm)  and grabbed a table and good thing we did.  By 10 pm it was hopping with a great mix of ages.  The music that night was provided by a local karaoke group singing lots of the old country western music  with a nice mix of current favorites. ( some really great singers I might add!)  By midnight the crowd had gotten a bit younger but everyone was well behaved and having fun.

One of the best bars we have been to in quite some time!  Great service! What a great treasure.  The locals certainly appreciate having a place to go to,  and we will go again.  Probably before we will drive into Austin to shuffle on a dance floor!

I am sure there are lots of other great hidden treasures out there.  If you know of more, let us know!

I don't know anything about the town....however, I do agree that small towns do offer much more real things than the big ones.

Deb, have you ever checked out Walburg?  Another small town (blink in the road, really) with a lot to offer.  Granger, too, has some interesting nightlife.  And Coupland has the Coupland Inn.  All of them draw people from the bright lights of the big city on a regular basis.

Deb, I too live in a small town. Can't beat it. From the Friday night football game to breakfast in the local cafe, it is special. Look forward to seeing your town.

Larry,

As Tricia pointed out there are so many wonderful towns from Bastrop, to Smithville, to Walberg, Granger, Copeland, and Moulton.  Living in Texas is one big adventure!!!

Thanks for sharing Deb. I agree that small towns have a lot to offer. I live in a small town too! In fact we just had a new saloon open here in Fountain Hills as well. It's called the Two Step. They have friendly service and a fun western atmosphere. Its a great place to meet up with friends, have a drink and enjoy a tasty burger. They also have live music, karaoke and lots of TVs so you won't miss a game. If you ever make it to Arizona give me a call, I'd love to show you around!

Hi Bonny, I remember Fountain Hills when it really was  small!  Just a gas station on the way to the Verde River, but I am dating myself for sure!  Fountain Hills was a sleeper development that finally took off when the growth rings from the Valley got there. I can't remember what year it got it's township.  My brother lived and worked out there for years  (Radio Shack).  Beautiful settings, lovely homes!  Compared to Phoenix,  your little burb is small town!!    But to see really small ( population 900 +, you should come tour some of the out of the way Central Texas towns like Moulton.  Would make a great driving vacation for anyone who enjoys the country and the amenities of small towns.  Thanks for the invite.  Will be in the Valley between Thanksgiving and Christmas and I would love to see the Two Step!  Lets stay in touch!
