I was recently interviewed on The Bev Smith Show which is on the African American Urban Network (yea-National Show) and it was lots of fun. The host, Bev really appreciated the fact Homebuyer's Helper came from a consumer's perspective. We even had a caller call in during the interview. I heard the most preposterous thing - the caller stated that she had recently heard Suze Orman say that you should not pay off all your bills.

I conveyed to the caller that when you are purchasing a house, any outstanding debt (especially old debt) not being paid off will not weigh in your favor. It is imperative that it is paid off. If you have credit cards that have a great credit history it is fine to keep those otherwise, it will hurt you.

It is information like that, that is hurting the American consumer. How many people are not able to purchase homes because of information like that? I also conveyed to the caller, make sure their debt to income ratio is not out of range.
