The other night I met with some buyer clients of mine who are in escrow right now on a home. It was time to sit down and go over the disclosures etc with them.
We met at a coffee shop to sign the papers and talk about the repair request. When I pulled out the stack of paperwork for us to go over I think that their eyes were about to pop out of their heads. The wife looked at me and simply said "that is not all for us to do tonight is it?" I simply explained to her that it was.
About half way through the process the husband looked up at me and asked "Why would someone even think about buying a home without an agent?". I asked him what he meant. He simply explained that he could not understand why someone would even try to go through this process and try to understand all the forms and docs without proper guidance from a Realtor. I simply looked at him and said "Thank you".
He seemed confused at the response and went on to explain that many people simply do not understand what it is that we as Realtors do for our clients and what he had infront of him was simply the paperwork side of it all.
I tell all my buyer clients that finding them a home is the easy part I earn my money in the escrow process. They really did not understand that comment until that moment arrived. They figured that it would have taken them 10 times longer to do it all themselves.
When we were done(which was when we were asked to leave as the coffee shop was closing) I simply thanked them again for appreciating what it is that not just me as their agent but all agents as a whole do for our clients and that many other people do not fully understand it at all.
Sometimes it is just nice to know that at the clients do understand what it is that we do for them and that the money we make is earned and not just given.
My partner is an agent and really enjoys the smiles, thanks and raw appreciation folks show for a job well done. It's a scary process and a good agent is worth his or her weight in gold! Sounds like you're doing great things for your clients.
