After this morning's codger meeting, Medford & I removed to his place, and got to talking about AR's coveted "Gold Star" designation for featured posts. We are the recipient of one such award. We like gold stars! We really likethe bragging rights they give us with the codgers: "See, we told ya we could blog!"

But what we don't know is the criteria for earning this coveted designation. We have submitted posts thatwe thought had more merit than the one that earned the star--and zippo--no comments--no nothin!

Is it the time of day we post? Content relevance to the RE industry (we usually post on "off topic humor")?

We are confused, yet still wiley old guys--help us understand, if you know.

Still Havin' Fun,

Medford & Jay

wow, that gold star is worth more than any other you'll get here!  I haven't figured it out either....other than it's a matter of individual, personal opinion.

This topic has come up a lot lately.  Caleb, me (and soon a few others) choose by hand the posts that will get a gold star and be featured.  Yes, because it's done by hand it can be fairly subjective, and it's very hard to do because there are SO many good posts each day and we can't feature them all.

Sometimes I have a certain theme I like to run on.  Sometimes we get so many great posts on a single topic I can only feature a couple of them, so we get a variety of topics.  If it's a controversial topic I try to highlight different view points.  Also I tend to try to feature posts from new members as much as possible.

I will admit how a post looks and whether it is free from spelling mistakes can make a huge difference as there is so much to read I tend to browse over posts and only read certain ones in depth.  If a post is getting a lot of comments or being rated highly it will often catch my attention.

So in short there isn't a hard rule on what gets featured.  There are A LOT of great posts that don't get featured.

I think Matt has a crush on Lisa Dunn, she gets all the gold stars.  Her posts are awesome so I am not complaining. . . . or am I?

Maureen: You always know what to say. ("Hey Med, we got us another star!")

Lisa: I agree. As for the star, I think "post timing" is also a factor. I've noted that the time of day posted seems to have something to the number of comments we receive on our posts.

Matt: Thanks for the explanation. Yours is a tough job.

Teresa: Shame on you for trying to start such a rumor. Then again, Lisa's kicking our butts, point-wise with all those stars she gets!

THis allowed Lisa to take the weekend off-Merton and Ambrose snuck ahead of me, but I'm back and refreshed and ready to blog!
