I work out most mornings (although not many lately) with a co worker of mine.  We are pretty good about it and we feel much better.  I like to eat healthy, although I find it hard in this business.  We are always running around and it seems like there is so many unhealthy choices.   I use to try to bring my lunch a few times a week, but then someone would want to go out and I would end up going out.  I like getting out of the office and socializing and exchanging ideas over lunch.  I find I come back a little more energized.  So I ask you this, what do you eat for lunch when you go out that is both healthy and doesn't break the bank?  I'd love to hear your feedback.  Thanks for reading and I enjoy reading your comments!

It is hard to eat healthy in this profession unless you plan head daily.. I usually bring my lunch and if I eat out I choose items that I know are good for me.

I've found the choice that feels best for me is a salad with some protein. Like a Chicken cesar salad (hold the crutons and the roll!)  Or tuna or shrimp. The protein seems to give me energy for the rest of the afternoon.

I eat way to many lunches out with clients. I love Mexican food (but that's another Blog)... I try to, when reasonable eat a salad or a chicken salad. At one time a man eating a salad for lunch was a little strange, but now it seems acceptable... the times are a changing!

I either bring my lunch or eat a Sub.  Our office is next door to a Subway.

Lunch....what is lunch?  If I "get around" to lunch, it's usually after 2pm and it usually a SUBWAY  (sub sandwich chain everywhere in my area).  When I get lunch :)  it's usually eating in my car and/or while driving.   But, I do try to schedule lunch meetings with clients too!   For me, it's hard to plan ahead and pack a lunch - I wish I could get that organized.

Since I don't normally make appointments until the afternoon, I eat a salad at home.  I have sushi partners in all corners of the valley so if I have to eat out, I call one of them!

Valarie, Eating Healthy? Heck, I'm lucky if I get to eat. Actually I try to maintain a healthy diet and since I am the cook in the family I manage to make dinner most evenings for the family. Well balanced meals (even if I can't get the teenagers to eat vegetables!)

Valarie,

I always plan my meals ahead of time, that way I don't get stuck eating something I will regret. Most days a turkey sandwich on wheat, a protein bar and a piece of fruit will get me through the day. If I have to eat out a salad with grilled chicken no dressing works for me. Please feel free to check out our Fit Club you will be inspired! :)

I have myself on a definite routine.  I'm a vegan vegetarian and it's very hard to go out and eat a healthy lunch.  I drink 4 glasses of carrot juice every day and lots of water.  My husband and I juice our carrots at night and make enough for a 2 day supply.   I have a banana while I'm driving into work and I bring an apple and a large salad with all kinds of vegetables to work every day.  If I go out, I find the best thing is to order sides of vegetables and a baked potato along with a salad.  That really fills me up.  Sometimes I'll have pasta with vegetables.  There have been times when I go out just to socialize and eat very little, then when I go back to the office, I eat some of my salad.  Good luck and keep eating healthy.

usually eating a couple handful of nuts like RAW Cashuews or RAW Almonds are a great way of keeping people from making bad food choices later on. Also, having teas like Peppermint w/Chamomile or Ginger are great to have without honey or sugar some lemon is ok though. When you finally get to go out for lunch, it makes it easier to stop one from over eating. If you want to go out to eat, try having a protein and a substantial veggie (NO ICEBURG LETTUCE....it has very little nutritional value....dark greens are good way to go). Carbs are great to have early in the morning to give you energy for your day (like, raw oats over a fiber cereal and some wheat germ with soy milk, and some carrot juice).

I have come across many health professionals who have given me a lot of tips. They always encourage RAW things to snack on, so one does not over eat during their meals. I also find a ton of these things at Whole Foods or Rainbow Groceries or Trader Joes.

Partner Paul and I are trying to eat healthy but it never seems to work. The best bet for us is the local Chinese or Salad Bar.

Great Post Val,

The key is we're all trying to eat healthy, not eating healthy.  Eating healthy is a lifestyle choice that must be committed to.  I think you'd agree if you eat poorly you perform poorly, am I right?  When you try anything you give yourself outs.

When you tell yourself you're trying to eat healthy you end up at the local fast food chain at least once a week.

When you tell yourself you're trying to get to the gym, you hit the snooze button 3-4 times a week.

Ahhh but when you commit you just get it done, big difference.  Be careful with the language you use with yourself and in conversations with others, weak language means weak actions.  Strong language means strong actions.

If I know I am going to be in the office most of the day, I try and bring some kind of fruit.

Pack a healthy lunch, eat it before you go out to socialize, and just get a light snack while your out. Or try to go somewhere healthy. Most places have a healthy menu that you can choose from.

Our office is in the same building as Olive Garden and Max and Erma's so IF I am at the the office, which is rare, we go down the back stairs and eat there. Usually soup and salad at both places. I love Max and Erma's tortilla soup without the crunches on top.
